Does your experience even matter?
Does your experience even matter?
I want to talk about something that's been on my mind lately. It's about the importance of expertise and experience when it comes to hiring someone. As a fitness professional, I'm sure you would agree that experience matters when it comes to training clients. You wouldn't recommend a complete newbie to train someone, right? You know that it takes years of education, practice, and real-world experience to become a truly effective trainer. But here's what I don't understand. When it comes to hiring someone to help with growing their fitness business, a lot of folks seem to throw that same logic out the window. They opt for the cheapest option or the person making the wildest promises, regardless of their actual expertise or track record. I see it happening all the time, and honestly, it baffles me. Look, I get it. Marketing can be expensive, and it's tempting to go for the budget option. But let me ask you this: would you trust your clients' health and safety to the cheapest, least experienced trainer? Of course not. So why would you trust the growth of your business to an inexperienced marketer or coach? Here's the thing. As someone who's run a personal training business for 14 years and a marketing agency for 11 years, I can tell you firsthand that the majority of marketers out there simply don't understand the ins and outs of the fitness industry. In fact, I see posts in groups & coaching programs I'm in all the time asking the most basic questions. On top of not knowing the basics, they don't know the unique challenges you face, the nuances of your target market, or the most effective strategies for growing a fitness business. And that lack of industry-specific expertise? It can cost you big time. Not just in terms of money wasted on ineffective marketing, but in terms of missed opportunities and slow growth. So my advice to you is this. When you're looking to hire a marketer or business coach, don't just go for the cheapest option or the flashiest promises. Look for someone who has deep experience and a proven track record in the fitness industry. Someone who understands your business and your goals on a fundamental level. I'm not saying this to brag or to sell you on my services. I'm saying it because I genuinely want to see you and your business succeed. And I know from experience that working with someone who truly gets your industry is one of the best investments you can make. So the next time you're considering hiring a marketing company or business coach, ask yourself: do they have the expertise and experience to really move the needle for my business? Or am I just settling for the easy option? Your business deserves the best. Don't settle for less. To your success, Scott
