Does your CAD-model fit the 3D Printer – Find out in the library of 3D Printer Build Volumes!

Today i came across a cool feature on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform – and my colleague Michael Thomson was kind enough to help me look at it – Back in 2019 the platform, 3D Creator and xDesign got an update, and I admit that I missed this feature back in 2019, if you did to – then here you go!

The library of 3D Printer Build Volumes!

SOLIDWORKS xDesign is a 3D parametric modeling “App”, you can find it under the “Role” 3D Creator on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. This is the App and Role you need to design and model your parts on the platform – But it is also here that you find the library of 3D printer build volumes. Giving you the ability to immediately see if your part is going to fit inside a specific printer, and scale it down to fit, if needed.

You can find the feature in the menu bar below

Now that you have chosen your printer, you can point out the plane you would like to use on the face1 on the printer.

You also get the possibility to change layout and things like layer size under Analysis.

You will now get to see where the printer will have to place the support – Giving you the opportunity to make changes.

And if you want to exclude a item from the print, you can still do that. And you are now ready to export the Print Format.

I hope you liked this little feature and that you go try it out on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform.
