Does Your Business Give You Time to Enjoy the Little Things in Life?

Sometimes while I’m working, one of my cats wanders up to me and starts mewing. At this point, I know she’s probably saying one of three things:
1. She wants treats.
2. She wants to go outside.
3. She wants to be brushed.
Two of these things can be done in less than a minute. The third takes several minutes, and it’s easy to say, “I don’t have time for that.”
And sometimes it’s true – if I need to leave for an appointment, or get on a scheduled call, that isn’t a good time to stop and brush a cat.
But there are also times when I stop and reflect on my brother’s words: “Is what I’m doing right now really so urgent and important that I can’t take 5 minutes to make this cat the happiest girl in the world?”
Quite often, the answer is no.
Do you find yourself in situations like that, where life is calling for you to be part of it?
Maybe it’s a child who wants to show you their new drawing. Maybe it’s a rainbow that will only be brilliant for a few minutes.
What do you do when these moments arise? Do you take a few minutes to enjoy them? Or do you decide that your business is so much more important than every other part of your life that the other parts don’t even deserve 5 minutes of your time?
What are the things you choose to make time for today, in your business and outside of it?
And if you truly are too busy to take 5 minutes for the non-business parts of your life, do you have a plan to change that?
