It occurred to me yesterday as I saw the temperaturas soaring in Europe and North America that it must have a significant impact on us as human beings.?
I mean, not only our ability to even get to work, but our whole mood and well being.
I have written plenty of times about the importance of a good nights sleep, so if we are too hot, or also too cold, then this will have an impact. Add to that if you are also experiencing extreme conditions either way in the day and it really could make a huge difference right?
So lets just stay with that for a minute…
I had a look on google to see some stats and there it was; your work area temperature has a direct impact on productivity, dropping by up to 4% per degree when it rises above 27 degrees Celsius, or 80 degrees Fahrenheit.?
So what can we take from this information. Well, if you are working from home, like me, then it is essential to maximize your conditions. Do not just soldier on. Buy a fan, install air conditioning, put the heating on if it is cold. If you are not comfortable then it will have a detrimental effect on you and your business.
On top of factors like this, the weather can also affect our mood. We usually are of the belief that sunny weather makes us feel happier and motivated right? Well, actually, although as a general feeling that is true, when it comes to work, a rainy day ends up helping us to be more productive. I guess the temptation to put off work for another day to “make the most of the great weather” can go against us when it comes to work.
So although bad weather can contribute to depression and sadness due to the dip in serotonin levels from a lack of sunshine, it does not mean that it is good for productivity.

Do you feel better in a certain climate? There are also individual likes to consider in this.?
I love the sunshine, which is why I moved to a sunny island! I personally feel more upbeat and productive overall, but that may be because it is always sunny so I do not put work on hold just because the sun is shining to “make the most of it”. I guess living in a wet and/or cold environment for the large part of the year may well influence me more if that were the case.
I think that I just wanted to share this with you as it made me curious as to how productive and happy different countries' populations are at different times of year! Have you ever thought about that and the impact the weather has on you? Well I will leave you to ponder that.?
As always, thanks for taking a few minutes to read this.
I hope you are enjoying whatever weather you have and still managing to get the work done that you want to. If you ever need help with that then you know where I am.
If you could, I would love for you to fill out this short survey for me using the link below.
