Does Uber Really Take 50%+ from Drivers?
Many drivers are under the impression that Uber takes 50% or more of driver fares and, while this does happen, is it really as rampant as the driver forums would have you think? We put senior RSG contributor Sergio Avedian to the test, and he analyzed over 700 rides to see if Uber really is taking more than 50% of driver fares. The results may surprise you!
Here’s what readers are saying:
Sergio found that Uber, on average, takes less than 50% of driver fares, but that didn’t stop drivers from explaining that every market is different, and Sergio may simply be in an area that is more favorable to drivers:
“Nice analysis. However, you miss one big asterisk in it. You're only calculating where you drive. The Twin Cities is one of the test markets for showing the fare and destination up front. Long drives over 20 miles or 30 minutes are paid $3-6 less. There a few large surges anymore and Quest payments have been but. The average take is about 45-50%,. You can't factor in quest bonuses because the are not a guarantee.”
Uber Drivers Choose YOUR Guarantee Promo | Would YOU Take 345 Rides For $4380?
Uber has a promotion opportunity for drivers called ‘choose your guarantee,’ where drivers can choose how much they want to earn based on how much they’re able to drive. How can drivers maximize these bonuses - or are these bonuses unattainable?
Here’s what readers are saying:
Several drivers shared that as they start driving the required number of guaranteed promotion rides, they often end up making the ‘guaranteed’ amount anyway - so they don’t end up earning much in extra earnings.?
“My average is $10 per trip. So if I do 350 rides, that's $2700 - 3500. So only a few hundred bucks, if anything at all.? It's only to get people driving and chasing these promotions, which is a dead end. challenges and streaks is the only thing I care about.”
Lyft Threatens Driver With Deactivation For Following Lyft's Own Policy!
This is a pretty crazy story - Lyft threatened one driver with deactivation for following Lyft’s own policy. It’s another example of rideshare companies always believing the passengers and making it harder for drivers. What do drivers have to say about this?
Here’s what readers are saying:
Many drivers shared similar experiences of unrealistic expectations from Lyft and Uber, expecting drivers to magically get through traffic quickly, always believing passengers when they say drivers aren’t wearing masks, etc. Drivers are frustrated and aren’t believing the hype that they are ‘independent contractors’:
“I’ve gotten the same propaganda from Lyft before.? But I’m not going to let them harass me and I warn them of legal trouble coming their way and they don’t care…? I’ve gotten the same thing for them claiming I wasn’t making progress towards the rider because of these long-distance pick ups but I was making progress less than five minutes over the ETA which is what they expect.”
