Does Success Require a Sacrifice of the Self?

Everyone's definition of success is different. But it seems that everyone conforms to someone else's definition. One commonality, however, is the notion that success requires a sacrifice of the self.
I have a real problem with this, especially because the idea of success is often accompanied by phrases such as "sleep is overrated" or "fake it til you make it" or "do whatever it takes".
So we do things that are out of alignment with who we are.
We cut our prices down to levels that clearly won’t sustain our business in the long-haul just to appease a prospect who then becomes the kind of client who's going to text us at 3 in the morning with work assignments and questions, and expect an answer, right then and there, (oh the horror stories I've heard).
We max out the credit card and buy from someone well versed in sales techniques simply to follow the path that worked for them, even though in our hearts we know that path won't work for us.
We think these states of being are only temporary until we "make it". We swear to ourselves that once we "make it", then we’ll find balance, then we’ll build a business we actually love, then we’ll show up as our true selves and champion in a new dawn.
This madness has to stop.
You and your business are organic.
You don’t operate in a vacuum. Neither does your business. Your business needs to be nurtured on all sides. This nurturing must start with the one who planted its seeds in the first place. That's Y-O-U.
This is why I've gathered together some amazing women and men who have been through the storm time and time again. They know what's it's like to fall in line to make ends meat and then turn around and choose the road less traveled which ultimate led them to where they desired to be. They will expose their deepest insights and reveal how they came to love themselves, and their work, so that you can take from their life lessons and decide for yourself what’s going to make you successful; self-sabotage or self-love.

I want to encourage you this month of LOVE...
Set aside some time, some funds to make an investment in you. Whether that be some form of self-love, mind-set, personal transformation, or whatever. It's true: you're so much more than the success of your business. But I have come to understand that those of us who are solopreneurs may find that our businesses reflect how we feel. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that feeling good about who we are first will help us succeed on levels far greater than what our businesses could ever hope to give us alone.
I hope you can join me for The Love Yourself Love Your Business Virtual Summit.
We can work on redefining our own version success together.

9 年Lynette Davis great version and when we live as our true and real selves and creating our success based on our own definition and values there is no sacrifice. It's when we try to be successful and ignore what I've said previously there is sacrifice. It's really a great way to see if we need to make a shift, if we feel we are sacrificing then a change is in order.
