We were recently asked,?
"Is SEO aimed at getting you found on Google for your brand name?"
This question showed us once again how vital it is to keep explaining to business owners how the online search world actually works.?
Some people think that SEO's main aim is to get a business to be found on Google for the brand name. This is not exactly true.
Of course, people must find your site better than anyone else's when they search for your brand name on Google.
(Caveat: if your brand’s name is not really unique, like “Red Wine”, ranking on top of Google for your brand name with your site could be understandably harder).
However, the real scope of SEO is not for you to be found for your brand name. That will unlikely give you brand new clients, because only people who already know your brand would be Googling it.
Your business must rank for “non-branded” keywords.?
These are keywords that a prospective customer would search for if they don't know you yet, if they need your products and services.?
The aim of SEO is to get you new customers.
This can only happen if people find you, who didn’t know you yet, who might need you.
