Does the right look make a difference?

We all say " do not judge a book by it's cover."

Then we say " first impressions count," but looks can be deceiving, no? How can we be fair, not judgmental yet make the correct assessment?

OK this is what I am getting at, I was just supervising a classroom. There was a tremendous need for improvement in that room. I said to myself-step one: do not judge the teachers, next step is work with them to improve.

The change was drastic. Within a week the room had been transformed. What a wonderful transformation! The classroom now reveals itself as a well run, efficient classroom run by teaching professionals.

Wow.

Then came the revelation- spend your time doing not judging.

Our school systems have way too many administrators that just observe. If every second of instruction is as important as we are made to believe then they should be engaging with kids the moment they walk in the room.
