stone damage repair or leave it ?

Does It really matter if I don't get my windscreen repaired ?

Here is the million dollar question ....you have stone damage to your windscreen... do you get it repaired as soon as possible ? or leave it for a while for when you get round to it ?

The answer would be to get it done as soon as possible to reduce any contamination and water ingress to the damaged area, if a damage is left un-repaired it will leave the PVB polyvinyl butyral ) Exposed to water contamination which will cause the damaged area to appear milky in appearance, and even when repaired this appearance will not change and can cause the repair to fail within a short period of time.

This picture shows damage to a windscreen that was left for several months before contacting us, you can see the milky appearance starting to appear as the water has contaminated the PVB.

This picture is the same damage after it has been repaired.... it now appears to have a nice white blotch on the windscreen and has also prevented all of the damage from being filled correctly as cracks are still apparent. we would refer this for replacement in normal circumstances.

So whats the answer I hear you say ..... how can I reduce the the possibility of contamination to my windscreen ? for any reader of this article living in the UK Glasweld Systems will send you "free of charge" a sheet of "Disaster Plasters", these are transparent self adhesive stickers that you would place over any stone damage immediately to seal of this damaged area, until such time that our Technician can attend.

Please e mail your details to [email protected] for your FREE sheet of disaster plasters.
