Pragati is studying English literature. I often keep talking to her to understand the nitty-gritty of the English language since every Language has its own beauty and fragrance.
The other day she initiated the conversation by recalling following lines of Great William Shakespeare –
“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players..”
“Uncle, as per above lines – we should play our part well and play it with fun. But sometimes we are so much dejected that life does not seem to be a fun at all”, Pragati said.
I agreed with her completely as I sensed that she was referring to current pandemic.
“In such situations, how to push ourselves further then?”, She asked.
“Will bringing our logical/reasoning mind into the picture help?”, I responded with a question further.
“What if the logical mind gives up?”
“hmm..then how about practicing patience for a while?”
“Uncle, what if the patience goes on a long sick leave ?? ?”
With her every question, Pragati was revealing her thoughtfulness & pushing me to be thoughtful while answering.
“In that case – do you think ACCEPTANCE will work? Accepting the situation and not resisting it?” I asked.
“Uncle, no doubt Acceptance is a huge power, but sometimes the gravity of the situation does not allow to accept things immediately, which further results in prolonged mental agony.”
I said - “Actually Acceptance should work most of the times as it saves you from getting into the further negative cycle. However, if acceptance also is in short supply, then GRATITUDE is the last resort.
See Pragati – Gratitude can be as subtle as you can think of. You being able to think and express your views right now is the proof that you are gifted with a Sound Mind and an ability to Speak, which not everyone is fortunate enough to have”.
Pragati went silent and her contemplative face gave me the indication of her thoughtful conclusion about the discussion.
While talking to her, I too realized that it’s so very important and necessary to count our blessings in order to calm down the dejected mind, in every adverse situation!
That day we both learned the lesson that the POWER of Gratitude supersedes everything!
So when nothing seems to work in life, let us remember to BE THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL for every small thing in our life and it shall help us in sailing through the difficult times.
