Does Networking really work?

Networking, for some, can be as painful as sticking pins in their eyes.
So, how can you network like a boss and make the most of the time?
1. PREP YOURSELF
- dress appropriately - feel comfortable but still look professional
- prepare a short elevator speech - 30 seconds - that sums what you do, why you do it and your ideal referral
- obtain a list of all those who will attend (if possible) so you can make a mission to introduce yourself to ideal and potential clients
2. MAKE EYE CONTACT & ASK QUESTIONS
Connecting to people - really connecting - requires actual contact. So, maintain eye contact (without being weird), pay attention to what they are saying and ask pertinent questions
3. HAVE BUSINESS CARDS READY
Keep them handy but don't shove them into people's hands. The best way is to wait on a queue that tells you its time to offer your business card or better yet, ask for theirs - they will normally reciprocate
4. CONNECT AGAIN WITH THOSE YOU FELT A REPORE WITH
Don't be a stalker, but do follow up with those you know you can do business with or perhaps be able to refer to. A simple email can do it and possibly a quick call
There are many ways to network and many networking events around Cape Town - choose yours wisely and be consistent about visiting those 1-2 network groups. This is how you build relationships and trust.
For all your business needs, reach out and schedule a coffee.
