Does Narcan Really Work?

Does Narcan Really Work?

There's nothing special about today. It's just Tuesday. But today I want to tell you about my friend Jeanie.

----

Before I do that, though, let's talk about Narcan for a second. I've heard multiple people say things like, "Let me them die, the world is better off," or "ot my problem they're an addict, why would you bring them back to life?" I've heard people say after Narcan was used to save someone's life, "They did it to themselves, now they need to learn their lesson."

Interestingly enough, the people I've heard say that have never had a daughter or son or brother or mother be saved with Narcan. I bet their tone would change quickly if that were the case.

----

Back to my beautiful friend, Jeanie. She was a heroine addict for many years of her life. She was brought back from an overdose three different times with Narcan.

Guess what? Each time she was brought back she went right back to her addiction.

What a waste, huh? The world probably should have just left her for dead. She did it to herself, right?

But God....

Jeanie eventually went to prison for 11 years because of her addiction. Again, what a waste, huh? We probably should've just made her learn her lesson and die from an overdose.

But while in jail, a complete stranger, Sheila, visit Jeanie and introduced her to Jesus. As Jeanie headed off to serve her time in prison, she wasn't going alone; Jesus would walk with her.

---

Fast forward to 2019. Jeanie was released from prison with a passion for life she'd never had before. With a full awareness that Jesus had SAVED her life more than once, because He had amazing plans for her.

From the moment I met her, Jeanie has had boots on the ground, trying to learn. Trying to do better. And most importantly, trying to give back to the world, no longer taking for granted the freedom and second chance at live she'd received.

I have personally sat and watched Jeanie talk another woman off the ledge from using drugs to cope with her life. It was one of the most powerful moments I've experienced.

I have personally watched Jeanie encourage another woman who came out of prison into a pandemic scared to death, telling her, "You can do this! I believe in you and I will walk with you every step of the way."

I have watched her struggle to adjust to this crazy world.

I've watched her cry over someone else's heartbreak because she can genuinely feel what they feel, because she's been in their shoes.

I've watched her restore relationships with people she never thought possible.

I've watched her lean in closer to the Lord, desperate to do His will.

----

That's MY friend, Jeannie, y'all. The one Narcan saved 3 times before she finally decided to do something different.

For those who say addicts are a waste of time and there's nothing you can do to change them, meet my friend Jeanie

For those who say, "We just need to leave them for dead because they did it to themselves," meet my friend Jeanie.

For those who don't believe God has a plan for every person's life, whether they're burying themselves in a pit daily, or sitting on top of the world, meet my friend Jeanie.

----

The world is a better place because Jeanie is in it, so the next time you start to condemn someone for something you truly don't comprehend, think of my friend Jeanie.

Actually, maybe give her a call. Ask her to tell you her story. It's worth hearing.
