You’ve probably heard about the importance of evaluating the opportunity cost of your decisions – every time you make a choice, you should think about what you miss out on given alternatives. High-risk, high-reward decisions are complicated. Without one being better than the other, your decision might look completely different than your peers. So how should you evaluate what determines which path you take?
Let’s think about a situation we’d all like to confront. What would you do with those earnings if you won a raffle of $100,000?

Why did it take so long for Silicon Valley Bank to discover what was happening to them?
Andres: ?“This is called hindsight bias. It’s one of those where once it happens, you think it’s obvious and wonder why no one did anything to prevent the situation from exploding.
There were various people on Wall Street pointing to those unrealized losses. Actually, the FDIC presented a chart with the unrealized losses of both banks that collapsed before the banks fell. So it’s not like they didn’t know SVB had those unrealized losses. What no one had on their bingo card was that $40B would leave one bank simultaneously. That bank would’ve had time to adjust its balance sheet if people were not pulling deposits at that pace. But it’s hard to manage when it happens in 24 hours, as it did for SVB. When the Federal Reserve hikes interest rates this fast, something will break you just don’t know exactly what will break.” -?Listen to the full conversation.
