Does Luck work in business, profession and relationships of a Salesperson?
How many of you have ever in a situation, you had lost complete confidence that the deal was gone, but all of a sudden due to certain circumstances or your consistence effort, you had revived the relationship and brought back the deal?
I am a firm believer in the Pareto rule. The 80:20 ratio is applicable in all fields.
80% of your efforts will bring about 20% of results
80% of the deals will be closed by the top 20% of the Salespeople in the team
20% of your Clients will bring your 80% of your revenue (20% of all your efforts will translate to 80% of the target/goal)
While all this is true in real relationships, one can never ignore the importance of putting the 100% effort in the process. Unless we religiously dedicate and follow the procedures/sales process/the desired activities, how will we get the results?
Well, the way I see things is surely different from the way you as a reader will differ. But the thousand years of experience of human evolution and how the underlying process works in the Human Evolution and Survival remains same and intact, unquestionably.
I would say Luck will follow when you club your hard work with sheer enthusiasm and a conducive human relationship.
Is it difficult to organise all these? Oh, yes it is! But your willingness to adapt to changing situations, your mindfulness about your vision and disciplined approach will get you on the right track over a period of time.
Let's see from this angle, my writing may not bring me solace, this is merely my third article. I do not know how many people will see it and like it? Don't know what effect it will make in the readers' mind. But as long as it reaches to the 20% of the people who find it useful, and sure 80% of the populace may not like it, my efforts will suffice. Agree?
This brings me to a junction, where I can reaffirm myself that I even if the results are not obvious, it is just the matter of time, I can evolve as a person - maybe I can write my heart out and can portray my vision and thought process to a broader audience in a more systematic and effective way. I should then focus on my consistency of efforts? I would love to hear your suggestion and feedback.
My goal through my writing is to improvise myself, my thought process, build a web of like-minded professionals where each other can benefit from each other, and not just Like, Share, Repost like other social platforms.
The areas of improvement I am looking for in my own career in the next few months:
1. Effective Communication (verbal/nonverbal)
2. Negotiation Skills
3. Sales & Marketing Approach
4. Keeping myself Healthy
5. How to keep my network of people within my reach, ways to improve my reach to my whole network - via videos, posts, articles? 6. What would be the proportion, to keep my 100%, so I can achieve the 80% via the cream 20% effort?
So now I know what I need, my dear readers, I would love to know how could you help me? I need help.
I will narrate two incidents, which confirmed my belief towards 80:20.
Let's take it from my first article:
https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/success-permanent-failure-temporary-sujaya-kumar/
My first sale, I kept on dialling all countries, all industries possible, without knowing the fact that how long it will take for me to get a deal closed, and which country, which region, which company I would be able to close.
I continued my effort, one rejection after the other. There were times I would think to give up. But when giving up is not an option, you have to hang on to the basics. So on the way, I encountered a few promising clients with possible big deals, which led me to believe that I can get the deals. But, the reality is they were blowouts. 80% of the Deals come from the unexpected 20% sources.
Few big clients noded, agreed, but it never happened. It took me 28 days and 497 calls to be precise, to close the first deal. I did not know that this particular client will bring me the deal. There are many factors like clients, requirement, my product meeting their expectation with the stipulated time and budget, etc. But again the very vital role plays the fact that whether the attempt was made or not? Now the second one 1100 attempts. The rate is quite lower than the previous one. But it's learning and it's a continuous process. So unless I keep on
Had it not been made, what was the chance? None!
Followed the second, with 1100 attempts. It's ones patience and luck to after continued efforts, where a customer will agree to buy your service. This one came with a twist. After all the procedures, on the final day morning, I receive an email that their management board are not going ahead, like my other rejected deals. Here came handy the relationship I had built with my counterpart there. After a prolonged call in that afternoon, was able to close the deal, happy-faced, win-win both sides.
My take away for all my friends, hang on to the basics, failures, tempory failures will come, it's destined to come, just to ensure that we are in the process. No matter whichever profession you are in, don't give up, one more last call, don't give up, someone out there is waiting with the money to buy your service. Just you have to uncover all the No's in the process and reach to that person.
The final victory will be yours.
