Have you gone through days when it feels like a flurry of incidents happening back-to-back and you have no control whatsoever on that day except for being able to somehow get through it with your head held high? Happens to all of us. The challenge is when this happens way to often to feel any real sense of being at the driving wheel of your life.
You are the CEO of your life, and you should be making the hire, fire, and strategy choices. But when you are stuck in this series of frenziful days- how do you break this pattern and move into the toll-free lane?
There is a concept called the 'Wheel of Life' that I would love to talk about it in this context. It is a simple technique to quick check whether we are prioritizing what we would like to. The key words here being 'what you want'. So, here are quick steps to try this for yourself.
?1. Draw a circle and create points around the circumference that represent elements/ people/ activity important to you.
2. Now let us assess the current status by assigning a score to the elements. Imagine the centre of the circle is score zero and the outline is score 10. Based on how much time you spend on a daily, weekly basis for these aspects of your life, score them.
3. Join the dots to see how the current wheel looks like.

There is no right or wrong wheel.
The ideal wheel is how you want the ideal to look. So, make that too on another sheet.
Spend time just looking at both the wheels and absorbing the reality of it from a helicopter view or as if you are looking at it from a distance. Once you have done this, you know your priority.
You know where you want to score yourself better. List three action items you can do to change the score for every element that is lacking.
This simple exercise helps you self-assess your priority and plan what you want to do with your day. When you do this, you should feel a higher sense of calm and accomplishment at the same time. Simply because you did what you wanted to and planned to.
If you do try this exercise, I would love to get feedback on whether it worked to make you aware of your day.
So, plan your actions else life will happen to you.
