Does law of attraction really work?

Does law of attraction really work?

Let us understand Law of Attraction (LOA). LOA is the belief that positive or negative thoughts can bring positive or negative experiences into a person's life. LOA depends on our thought process. It depends on our thinking. What we choose to focus on, grows.

We all know about neuroplasticity. Different parts of our brain control different functions. For example, if a child gets interested in learning a language and start practicing, the part of the brain that controls linguistic abilities develop. If the same child loses interest in learning language and starts focusing on numbers, the part of the brain that controls calculation and mathematics develop. ??

Our beliefs and thoughts lead to certain actions. Actions lead to certain results. If we want to change the results, we need to change our thoughts. Dr. Stephen R. Covey talks about See-Do-Get Model in his book ‘The 7Habits of Highly Effective People’.

Some interesting facts about thoughts,

·??At an average, 50,000 and 60,000 different thoughts cross our minds in a day. That’s 55 to 70 thoughts per minute.

·?80 percent of these thoughts are negative. That is 44 to 56 negative thoughts per minute

·?More than 90% thoughts are repetitive i.e. 35 to 45 per minute.

·?85% of our thoughts will never happen

In other words, those negative thoughts we had yesterday are more likely to get repeated today and then tomorrow and then day after. This repetition will lead to reinforcement of negative thoughts. Reinforcement of negative thoughts will lead to negative actions and unpleasant results.

Taking the example we discussed during understanding neuroplasticity further, when a child starts believing maths is difficult because his parents keep on nagging him to focus on maths because they believed it is difficult, he will find maths difficult. When the same thought is repeated multiple times, it becomes a reality for the child. However, his brain has a capacity to solve maths but because he is not using it, it is likely that, part of the brain which controls mathematical abilities remains underdeveloped.

One more example, if a person believes he cannot speak English fluently, the same thought will be repeated multiple times during the day every day. This will be reinforced in this mind. This will lead the person either to avoid communicating in English or make a feeble attempt speaking English. This will lead to communication failure or weak communication, no impact or negative impact on the listener. ?

A boy looks at himself in the mirror and feels his nose is too long. Everyday when he considers his looks, he feels his nose is too long and gives not so pleasant look. This will create negative reinforcement. He will not be confident about his looks and personality that can lead to inferiority complex and low self-confidence. Now, the entire class may find him handsome but he will find himself not so good.

85% of these thoughts will never happen. They are figments of our mind. They were unnecessary worries. Think about all those limiting beliefs, those negative thoughts you have about your abilities and skills. Those things you keep on telling yourself you cannot do. Are they real or are you just imagining that you cannot do.

Along with the negative thought process, mind is creating images of the person failing. When a child believes he is weak in maths, he sees himself struggling with numbers and unable to solve. When a person believes he cannot speak fluent English, he sees himself struggling with speaking English, fumbling and making mistakes, people laughing at him.

When a boy sees his nose long, he sees himself as unpleasant looking and people disliking him.?

When we want to improve our health, we tell ourselves, ‘I will not have junk food from today’. Tell yourself ‘I will not have junk food from today’, closing your eyes and pause reading. Open your eyes and think about what came to your mind. Junk food? Burger, vadapav, pizza etc. Our mind does not understand negative suggestion. Instead, say, ‘I will have healthy food from today’ Now see what images come to your mind? Healthy food or home-made food in a plate.

With the above examples we can see that what we believe is true manifests in our mind and then in the results. It is like google, if you search benefits of eating an egg every day, you will find benefits. When you search harmful effects of eating an egg every day, you will get a list of harmful effects.

We know that, when we focus on problems you have more problems, but when you focus on solutions, you have more possibilities. It is possible to reverse this negativity by law of attraction. How??

Practice gratitude. This will bring focus on what you have instead of what you don’t have. Start making a list of things you should be thankful about. Add five things everyday and read the list before you go to sleep. This list will become longer every day.?

When you look at yourself in the mirror, think about all the good you have instead of your weakness. Boy perceived long nose as his drawback but his classmates hardly look at it. They are looking at the positives he has.?

Appreciate yourself. Celebrate those small successes you achieve in your life or at work. Appreciation from others would be difficult but self-appreciation boosts your confidence and makes your attitude positive towards self. ?

Practice meditation. It helps you to discard negativity like we discard waste from our body every day. Mindful meditation will help you live in the present.

Do good to others. Humans are naturally born with compassion and feels happy when others are happy but this compassion is somewhere lost in this material world. Do good to others however small it is. Those small things you can do to others increases your compassion and happiness.?

Be happy for others. When we see people around us successful, celebrate along with them instead of being jealous. ?

Practice manifestation. See the kind of life you want to lead, your dream everyday before you go to sleep. ??

Thank you.
