Does GenAI spell the end for the CV?

In this edition of GraffitiSoup, we’re diving into the evolving role of AI in recruitment and what it means for the traditional CV. With AI advancements reshaping the way candidates are evaluated, we’re exploring how job seekers can navigate these changes and what hiring practices might look like in the near future. Let’s explore the impact of AI on the CV and how this transformation could redefine what it means to stand out in the job market.

  1. AI Agents Will Mark a Major Shift in the Tech Market by 2025 Source: Fast Company

This article from Fast Company discusses how AI agents will revolutionize the job market by 2025, transforming everything from daily work tasks to hiring practices. The implications for the CV are profound—AI agents could soon be the first point of contact between candidates and employers, analyzing CVs for key skills and qualifications. As AI plays a larger role in initial candidate screenings, job seekers may need to rethink how they present their qualifications, ensuring that their CVs are optimized for both AI algorithms and human recruiters.

  1. The State of the AI-Enabled Candidate in 2024–2025 Source: Arctic Shores

Arctic Shores’ report delves into the rise of the AI-enabled candidate, exploring how AI-driven tools are shaping the hiring landscape. This shift emphasizes the growing importance of demonstrating skills beyond what's listed on a traditional CV. With AI assessing not only qualifications but also traits like adaptability and problem-solving, candidates must focus on showing their potential through behavioral assessments and simulations. The question becomes: how can candidates showcase themselves in a way that AI systems will recognize their unique value?

  1. Skills-First Hiring: A Rising Trend Source: HireVue

Finally, we turn to HireVue’s exploration of the "skills-first" hiring trend. As companies shift away from traditional credentials and focus more on actual capabilities, the CV itself may evolve to become less about past experience and more about current skills. AI-driven hiring platforms are increasingly looking at candidates through a skills-first lens, which means job seekers may need to reframe their CVs to highlight specific competencies, especially those that align with an organization’s needs. This trend marks a critical shift in how talent is discovered and evaluated, emphasizing the importance of adaptability in the modern workforce.

AI is reshaping the future of work, and the CV is not immune to these changes. As we continue to adapt, it’s clear that success will come to those who not only embrace AI but also understand how to work alongside it. The key takeaway? Keep your skills sharp, your CV adaptable, and your approach to job seeking flexible as AI continues to transform the landscape.

Have a great weekend ahead, and good luck to all those on the job hunt!

Love this Joe. I really like Artic Shores for information, they have a Podcast 'TA Disruptors' some really good conversation on there from different perspectives! Still so many questions about skills first and AI etc, but at least we get to figure it out, right?
