Does GenAI have humour?

Another fascinating week. Some of the things we shared on the weekly live talk - now with Rob Thurner and Markus Keiper as partners.?

And some of that I am going to share here.?

I was working on a project - creating unique songs using various GenAI tools. And the results were incredible and even brought my wife to tears.?

The first version was English. So I thought, let’s do this in German. I asked ChatGPT to translate into German but using English to instruct it.?

Of course, I got a good result back with the following answer - below.?

I then responded “Merci”, so the French word for “Danke”.?

And look what ChatGPT wrote: It started in German (like the required result) and continued in English.?

I find that pretty remarkable as it shows a certain level of understanding and maybe a bit of “intrinsic” humour. By that I mean humour that is not triggered by the prompter. Of course, you can ask ChatGPT for jokes on anything, but this is different.?

This was not the only experience this week of that kind.?

I also watched a conversation between Peter Diamandis and Elon Musk as part of the Abundance360 Summit.?

Elon Musk not only stated that AI is developing 10x every six months (that is 100x per year - just doing the maths for you here).?

He also expects that AI is soon “more intelligent” than humans, a moment that is called Singularity.?

This article is not a discussion about how realistic Singularity is, but I want to address the question of the future role of humans in this new setup.?

Announcement - “Humanity in the Exponential Age”

As mentioned before, I started a newsletter in 2019 “Humanity in the Exponential Age” but stopped it though it seems to be more relevant than ever.?

Given my passion and interest in the cross-roads of humans and technology, I decided to rebrand this newsletter and continue the work with this focus.?

What do you think about it?

What questions do you have?

What topics should I address??

AI and GenAI are driving the exponential development, but it is much more than AI and it needs to be human-centric.?

Scenarios for Humanity

I would like to briefly lay out three scenarios after something like a singularity moment or in other words a moment where AI is “more intelligent” than humans based on standard tests.?

Scenario 1: The Cautionary Tale

In our first scenario, we confront a world where AI has not only surpassed human intelligence but has also become the dominant force. This isn't about rogue robots; it's about the subtler, more pervasive control of our daily decisions, privacy, and even thoughts. AI systems, initially designed to optimize efficiency and productivity, begin to dictate what we read, how we work, and who we interact with, nudging humanity into a passive existence. In this world, the digital divide deepens, not just in terms of access to technology, but in the ability to understand and influence it. The richness of human experience is diminished, as spontaneous creativity and unpredictable human interactions take a back seat to algorithmic predictability.

Scenario 2: The Utopian Vision

Conversely, imagine a future where this leap in AI intelligence leads to an unprecedented era of abundance. In this best-case scenario, AI becomes a benevolent partner in solving humanity's most pressing challenges. Hunger, disease, and environmental degradation are tackled with precision and efficiency previously deemed impossible. Work evolves from a necessity for survival to an expression of passion and creativity, as mundane and laborious tasks are delegated to AI. Education and healthcare become universally accessible, tailored to individual needs and learning styles, fostering a world where every human being can reach their full potential. In this utopia, AI amplifies the best of humanity, leaving room for growth, exploration, and the pursuit of happiness.

Scenario 3: The Middle Ground

Perhaps the most realistic future lies somewhere in between these extremes. In this scenario, AI's advanced capabilities are integrated into society with checks and balances that preserve human autonomy and decision-making. The technology acts as a powerful tool rather than a ruler, enhancing human capabilities without overshadowing them. Ethical considerations and human-centric values guide AI development, ensuring that technology serves humanity without compromising our core values and freedoms. This balanced approach fosters a symbiotic relationship where AI and humans coexist, each playing to their strengths to build a better world.

Looking Forward

I would like to hear your thoughts on the scenarios and the questions coming up for you.

Personally, one thing is certain. The better I understand AI and GenAI the more I can influence the future - both my personal future and the future of my company and of society.?

I have not been more passionate about something for a long time. The cross-roads of humanity and technology will shape our future.?

Reach out when you want me to train your teams and work with your teams to utilise the technologies on a regular or even daily basis.?

Until then, have a great weekend.?

Oh yes, It was even an emotional and fun experience with AI this week. Thanks for the experience and the song.
