Does flexible working solve all the problems?

Well it's almost 5.30pm - for me that means home to some fluffy PJ's and more than one glass of wine. I've read lots of blogs/updates/stories this week around flexible working options which got me thinking. The weather was totally unprecedented, I've never seen anything like it in Scotland. Flexible working was offered to me as an option but I'm lucky that one of the company benefits I get is a company car which got me safely to and from work every day this week. A colleague of mine also made the journey to Glasgow from Ayrshire and managed to get into work however when her car got stuck out in the car park we donned our wellies and shovels to dig her out - I've got the sore arms today to prove it but I've also provided photo evidence...... that's teamwork in the face of adversity! Thankfully things are back to some kind of normality for most people today but as the local sandwich shop (which is independently owned) we normally go to for lunch was still closed due to the weather we were treated to a lovely hot lunch of burgers and fries to keep us going through the hundreds of calls to our clients and candidates. Firstly to ensure their safety but also to try and find a way for us to support our clients in trying to claw back some of the hundreds of hours of productivity that have been lost over the last 3 days due to the Beast from the East. The economy will have lost millions this week - from hundreds of cancelled flights/holidays, the local sandwich shop owner having to close, my dog walker who hasn't been able to get out of her house to make her living this week - it has affected everyone. I suppose what I'm trying to say is - flexible working is fantastic however it isn't an option for every business and it doesn't answer every problem that has been created by this awful weather.
Let's hope Spring makes an appearance soon!
Happy Friday - stay safe and warm.
