Does fitness promotes resilience in business?

I must admit. I'm not on Instagram, not on Tik Tok, not on Twitter. I do not take selfies, I also have a very few pictures of myself. So, I'm definitely not promoting my image here, not acting as a model, not searching for "likes". Just trying to see if my direct experience can help anyone in these troubled times.
In these past months, as maybe many of you, my inmail is bombarded by wanna be gurus, particularly discussing well being. As a startupper, bootstrapping since day #1, I had my downfalls, my sleepless nights, and the many anxieties that we all experience when trying to build something. I started being a regular in sports when I was 17, and never stopped. There is hardly a single day without my hour of workout. It helps my balance, it suffocates my anxiety, it helps me to vent out my fears, or hanger, and it certainly promotes my well being. Now, looking at the picture, you might wonder about my age. Well, I'm 55, looking at 56 closing in too fast. But this is not about me. It's about the inspiration I would like to share as I'm seeing too many people pulling in their paddle even before trying to use it. Excuses are always the same; family, work, too busy, and inevitably, you cannot help but noticing that they waste two hours a day watching videos, chatting, drinking, eating quick, and poisonous foods, and they age much sooner, usually accompanied by a general state of discomfort, not pleased of their bodies, often depressed, eventually having some pathology, and rarely successful in life.
No worries, I'm not selling myself as a sport guru, a life coach, or a fitness trainer, you find tons enough out there.
It's hard to push yourself in fitness, as it is hard in business. Early wake up calls, cold showers, limits to overcome, stronger, better, faster, heavier, but business ain't no different. You've got to push yourself through hurdles, and there is no limit to the degree of difficulties.
Now, fitness has two different levels of approach, let me share here a bit of my experience.
Many go to the gym for fast results, as all they want is the external appearance. But that won't last. Because they are not choosing a life style, and they are not ready to compromise on their choices. For a vast majority, a single year of workout, 5 days a week, strict diet, early wake up calls, weights, run, and cold showers, with no fries, burger, and beer, as a reward, is unacceptable.
Then you have those taking fitness as a choice of life, not obsessed by their physical outlook, which remains as a consequence of the hard work, and that remains until you are in fitness, compared to those taking some magic potions for a season, and then they crawl back all the way to their couch, to never venture in a gym again.

Is that so different at the office? Be there every day, the soft way, as a follower, doing the bare minimum for a living, or the hard way, as a leader?
Now, here comes how business, and fitness, are the two sides of the same coin.
Success isn’t something you stumble upon. Instead, it’s a reward for having ceaseless tenacity and steadily working hard. It may sound simple, but committing to hard work isn’t something we learn to do overnight. Hard work is habitual—it takes consistency and repetitive behaviors to truly submit yourself to the process. Same is fitness.
Many people romanticize success, and even more so, they crave the feeling that they think success will bring them. While it’s great to aim high and set your sights on something, this future-focused mentality is actually no use in the present. Instead, it’s the habits you have in place right now, and your commitment to hitting the mark, that count the most.
One thing that most successful people have in common, is an uncompromising attitude about fitness and exercise. This is because fitness can instill in you the fundamental building blocks necessary for achieving success. It is safe to say that if you can not commit yourself to regular exercise, you will likely never reach your full potential. Countless successful people, from Fortune 500 CEOs to entrepreneurs and celebrities, have discovered the undeniable connection between fitness and success. This is partly due to the fact that regular exercise enhances your physical and mental state, which lifts up all other areas of your life as well. In addition, fitness builds a fundamental knowledge base of the mindset you must cultivate in order to achieve anything that seems out of reach.
Lift hard, to fight hard. The more you lift, the more you can resist. And that works for everyone. Plus, how you feel, it's awesome. No beer can do that magic.
I hope I have helped someone here to better understand how fitness can improve our life experience, and help us to keep a balance, even when all around us seems dark, and confusing. Ditch your phone looking what others are doing, and go to the gym.

2 年We live obsessed with false needs, appearing, seeming what one is not, obtaining without effort. In this illusory dimension the primary focus is lost, that of keeping our body at its best. In a bad body the thoughts we will produce will be just as bad. Healty mind in healty body. Mens sana in corpore sano.
