Does Everyone have to mention AI to be current ?

I looked today at some Technical Film orientated Conferences coming up, and it seemed to me that every lecture or subject matter was about Artificial Intelligence , and its massive benefits to all mankind.

I am sure that in some cases this may be so, but because I am of a certain age, and can remember Blade Runner by Ridley Scott, or a whole series of films staring the ex Governor of California,or God forbid Wally I become worried .This is underscored by machines talking to other machines in a new language, alongside the ability to overtake humans, finds me again a little worried .There is also somewhere kicking around at the back of my human brain, an article I read, that said that Governments were trying to ban future robots being used in warfare-not counting drones of course:)

As much as I am sure there are some areas where Artificial Intelligence may making medical advances better, keeping an ageing population going longer before downsizing , so that they can all wave their flags with the slogan(my sisters husbands one this !)"Coffin Dodgers Live"this should not allow the technical world to all to a man ,woman ,animal,jump on the AI bandwagon as they all did with 3D Film or the obsession with 8K screens (even though your eyes only go up to 4K) in my world. There ends my rant ,and I am absolutely convinced the Emperor HAS clothes on.
