Does a "Dream Job" Really Exist?
Yes it does! And there can be more than one.
I envisioned my first dream job in college. My plans of working as a music teacher or performing musician were dashed when I saw my skill set not as good compared to other music students in my freshman and sophomore classes. As I started to major in other courses like Communication, Journalism, and English, my dad asked me if I had any concrete plans in mind for my new career, whatever that was going to be. I said, "I do not. But here's what I do know: I want to work with as many cultures of people in the world possible, and in as many places in the world, too. I just don't know what that is right now." That was in 1972.
Flash forward to 1980 when I read a job posting in the Pittsburgh Press newspaper that said:
Circus! Circus! See the Country! Looking for Marketing Directors with backgrounds in Music and Entertainment, Communications, Journalism, English. The Clyde Beatty-Cole Bros. Circus wants you!
That was my dream job. It didn't happen overnight. It happened when it needed to happen.
Dream jobs are the culmination of digging deep in your soul, in your heart, and defining a lifestyle that you want, choosing an aesthetic goal that will fulfill you, and having a belief that the universe will connect you with your future right self.
4 Steps to Dream Jobs
1. Define what gives you pleasure personally
2. Decide how you want to live
3. Be patient and trust that the Universe Will Deliver your Dreams
4. Grab it when you see it
If you follow these 4 steps, you can have more than one Dream Job. Your Dream Job will change with your age. I mean that constructively. Age should not be a barrier towards your rightful place in working society. Age can be used appropriately to support your next career.
You can only have a Dream Job if you envision it into existence by defining your aesthetic goals. Your Dream Job is only defined by the Dreamer. Give yourself license to Dream and the job will come.
My new Dream Job is talking to all of you.
