Does Blood Testing Make Sense?

Regular blood testing is a proactive approach to maintaining and optimizing health. Biomarker trends revealed through these tests can indicate health changes long before symptoms appear, allowing for early interventions through behavioral changes, lifestyle adjustments, supplements, or medication. This proactive strategy is key to preventing deficiencies and serious health conditions.
Think of a blood test like a fire detector—it signals potential danger before it becomes critical.
Frequency of Blood Testing
I recommend undergoing a blood test at least once a year, especially after the age of 50. Many medical insurance providers endorse this as a preventive measure. Discuss this with your physician to align on their perspective.
But be aware the doctor feedbacks may vary:
Personally, I not only recommend this practice to my clients but also provide them with a detailed list of suggested blood markers to test. This step is crucial for long-term health management.
Suggested Blood Test Markers
Key Reasons for Blood Testing?
1. Early Detection of Health Issues
2. Optimization of Health
3. Monitoring Risk Factors
4. Monitoring Nutrient Levels
5. Monitoring Organ Function
6. Data-Driven Decision-Making
?How about the interpretation of the various blood values
Blood test interpretation should always be done in consultation with your physician. They can provide a comprehensive understanding of the results by reviewing the reference ranges and considering your symptoms and medical history in context.

However, preparing for your appointment can help you make the most of your consultation, especially since healthcare visits are often brief, lasting around 15 minutes. To ensure you get answers to your questions, consider requesting your test results ahead of time. This allows you to review them and prepare specific questions or concerns.
Personally, I find this approach invaluable, as it helps me maximize the effectiveness of my healthcare meetings. Some of them might not necessarily appreciate all your questions :))

Personal Insights from My Blood Test Outcomes
Luckily the majority of my values are in a very satisfactory range. But i also face some values which require(d) further measures
?1. Ferritin (Iron Storage Protein):?
Issue: Slightly elevated levels over the years, posing risks to heart and liver health.?
Action Taken: Avoided supplements with iron or vitamin C, reduced red meat and alcohol. Result: Ferritin levels normalized (<200 μg/L).
?2. Homocysteine:?
Issue: High levels (17.5-21.8 μmol/L): too high levels can potentially lead to blood clots, or blood vessel blockages.?
Action Taken: Supplemented with Vitamin B6, B12,folic acid and Coenzyim Q10. Result: Levels dropped to a healthy range (14.6 μmol/L).?
3. Lipoprotein (a):?
Issue: Genetically high levels (350 mg/l), potentially contributing to plaque formation and inflammation. This value is genetically pre-defined?and therefore won't change (no intervention available, yet).??
Action Taken: Focused on maintaining a healthy lipid profile (especially Apo B) and reducing homocysteine levels to keep potential risks as low as possible.?
