Does the Bible address Business?

In my serene moments this morning, I asked myself, ‘Does the Bible address business in today’s context?’ Here’s what I found…
Work Diligently:- Scriptures advocate for handwork. Working beyond average. Working passionately. One cause of poverty is laziness. Proverbs 10:4, Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth.
Avoid Short-Cuts:- We live in days of ‘instant’ miracles matters money. Get-rich-quick schemes are devices of the evil one. The gospel of accelerated wealth is not biblical. God is not just interested with what you get but even more importantly, with who you become. Proverbs 13:11, Dishonest money dwindles away, but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow.
Pursue Purpose:- We were created to pursue purpose and meaning, not money. Money should be a by-product of pursuit of purpose. Love the Giver, not the gift. Do not form emotional attachment with money or material things. 2Timothy 3:1-5, In the last days, people will be lovers of money…
Every good gift is from God:- Our talents, abilities and ideas are from God. We should enjoy God’s providence with humility. Deuteronomy 8:18, But remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth.
Refuse to be Corrupt:- When corruption is rampant, we fail to recognize many people around us who make real wealth without corrupting their way to lucrative deals. Choose to be a remnant and stand for your rightful income. God does not need the aid of corruption to bless you. II Corinthians 9:8, And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. Romans 12:2, Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is - His good, pleasing and perfect will.
Execute Plans:- Take a risk. Don’t wait for perfect conditions. Invest wisely but by faith. Don’t be superstitious when an investment fails. You don’t have to explain everything. Keep sowing in hope. Ecclesiastes 11:4 AMP, He who observes the wind [and waits for all conditions to be favorable] will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap.
Be Honest:- Dishonesty cuts your life short. Honest people sleep soundly. Deuteronomy 25:13-15, Do not have two differing weights in your bag—one heavy, one light. Do not have two differing measures in your house—one large, one small. You must have accurate and honest weights and measures, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
Pay your Employees:- Especially casual labourers, they wait for their day’s wages to put food on their table. Don’t give them stories. Just pay them as scheduled. Organize with your financiers, if you have to but don’t give your workers excuses to inconvenience their salaries. Leviticus 19:13, Do not defraud or rob your neighbor. Do not hold back the wages of a hired worker overnight.
Be Generous:- Give back to the community upon which your business thrived. Psalm 112:5, Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice.
Take Breaks:- Learn to rest every 7th day. It’s a good day to reflect, refresh and to worship your Maker. Give your employees leave days. Exodus 23:12, Six days do your work, but on the seventh day do not work, so that your ox and your donkey may rest, and so that the slave born in your household and the foreigner living among you may be refreshed.
As a way of giving back to the community in response to the joblessness and job-related stress in our nation, I’ve decided to host and sponsor a business forum dubbed, From Employee to Employer. As such, participation to this forum is 100% free of charge.
