EPIC Trivia

When filming Roman Holiday in 1953, Gregory Peck made a memorable and generous decision that would impact Audrey Hepburn’s career. Although Peck was a well-established star at the time, Hepburn was a newcomer and virtually unknown in Hollywood. During production, Peck quickly recognised her immense talent and felt she would be the true heart of the film. As he watched her captivating performance, he sensed she was destined for stardom. Peck then did something rare for a lead actor: he asked the producers to give Hepburn equal billing in the film’s credits. Originally, Hepburn was to receive a minor billing due to her lack of fame, but Peck insisted her name appear alongside his, knowing her performance deserved it.

Peck’s instinct proved correct. Roman Holiday was a massive success, launching Hepburn’s career and winning her an Academy Award for Best Actress. The film became a classic, largely due to Hepburn’s charming portrayal of Princess Ann. Peck’s gesture set a lasting example of generosity and respect in Hollywood, cementing his reputation as a class act while propelling Hepburn to legendary status.

His generosity made him look good too, showing that recognising and lifting others can create lasting, mutual success.

Until next time,

Stay EPIC!!
