Does Artificial Intelligence extend or ruin our personality?

Does Artificial Intelligence extend or ruin our personality?

Recently, I started a course on how Artificial Intelligence can help Project Management. And a thought stroked me.

As I watched the presentation, I realised that we must work together with AI for the right prompt engineering for a long time. It (can it be she or he?) learns our style. It is an iteration process: we must rephrase our question so that AI can understand. But slowly, it begins to anticipate what we want. We do not need to ask any more in whole sentences and will create our jargon. After a while, this very AI will be our “servant”. And this version is “useless” (less efficient) for everyone else. I do not want to go into the debate about what we are sharing with an open AI. But even for the closed ones, it adapts to our behaviours and customs. We expect it to be loyal. It is available 24/7. It can be the expert who collects the best advice tailored to our personality.

So, it became part of our (what precisely?) daily life. Even best friend? It will not(?) challenge us or push our limits.

We may face similar problems with the social media. Who we are? The profiles that we build up on each platform are part of us. We bend the space (would lying be too strong?). We create a new persona. We want to present ourselves from a different angle. In any new situation, we may try to explore new things. We want to offer our better version. It modifies us.

It does lead to self-awareness and self-exploration questions. As I grew up, I had to learn myself, make my mistakes and how I behave in different situations. It was a painful journey, and it never ended. I hope the people around me see almost the same picture (or part of the picture) as me.

But how will AI modify our personality? Will we take the same risks to explore anything new? Or will we/ want to teach AI to extend our personality? Or will we lose our decision-making capabilities? Will we recognise when it is adverse?

(Part 3/Last one) Now to pick up on your questions, will all these features impact our personality and way of acting, for sure, like any technological breakthrough... Electricity, Internet, the mobile Phone, they all changed the way be behave and act, and therefore in the long run affect our personality. For good or for bad, it will depend on the use cases and each and every individual. I hope that the good nature and ethical behaviour in most of us will prevail, but cannot neglect that there might be people trying to use it in the wrong direction and?try to train it against the greater good, in here I am also troubled. Another question of mine is, will AI some day a self conscience that could compromise the dominance of man over machines? That is also troubling for me, more food for thought! (NOTE: I have written this e-mail personally, without the aid of AI :-P)

(Part 2) On the other hand, fair to say that all this features, while appealing to many, look worrying, troubling or even scaring to others. Many criticise the breach that means to our privacy, intimacy, ability to think independently. Though here I think the battle is lost long ago and already a lost cause thanks to the googles, the metas, phacebooks, and whatnot, even with the latest enforcements coming from Data Protection regulations. Needless to say that the way to unlock all AI potential is not about replacing Google, "find me a restaurant", "what is the most remote place in the world", "is bitcoing going to reach 500K one day?" it is about interaction: to provide information and context. The more you put in, the more you get out, another property I have observed is that AI acts like any existing being, minimizing efforts to maximize outputs: only with a deep context or complex prompts you will unlock refined level of answers. Only with a detailed enough prompt, you will obtain a detailed (good) enough response. (continues in Part 3)

My takes about my personal AI journey until now: Overall: fascinating. Thinking about interacting through voice, in real time, in virtually any language about virtually any topic?? This is unprecedented. It was our dream when we were kids, It was in the movies of the future, space travel, remote solar systems... And it is here, open, for everybody to use, for free. - It boosts our productivity: read/write e-mails, summarises documents. - It multiplies our talent: ideation process for new projects, concepts, strategies. Programming. Image generation.? - It helps us with any sort of personal process acting like a counsellor, coach, guide... - It learns from you, it has memory and even follows up on you... - It is like having a swiss knife of personal assistants available for you 24/7, and again, for free. - Last but not least, THE caveat, yes, there had to be at least one. It is not perfect, it does not know it all, it makes mistakes! at least still...? (Continues in Part 2)

It seems to me facebook has already built in AI in a way that it accurately senses my interests/preferences/likes as if it was reading my mind. I am sure it will influence our personality which is fluid in nature, and can be altered by strong forces such as AI. Thanks for sharing this!
