Does anyone really need one more newsletter?

Does anyone really need just one more newsletter?

Almost certainly not!

People generally don't want more content: what they want is more time!

but maybe, just maybe if you offered them your #ExpertLetter ... then the specific audience you want to reach may just want to pay you some more attention:

here is how:

If you can clearly and quickly deliver that through your expertise, then they may just sign up for your Newsletter - or rather #ExpertLetter

1) Please dont send me an invite to your Newsletter

Unless its specifically for me and a challenge that I am passionate about.

and even then:

I am very particular about how I spend my time (as you will probably find most of your audience is)

Also, please make it easy for me: actually could you make it Straightforward, Slow and Simple for me: I dont have a lot of time to spare and I want to get more value, faster from any content (incuding yours) that I invest my time in consuming.

I think that the proliferation of Newsletters is just added to the SPAM in my inbox anywat? (GUI definition of SPAM is messaging or content that is Generic, Unwanted and or Irrelevant - doesnt that describe most Newsletters?)

However, if you have an #ExpertLetter then I just might be curious about that:

2) What is an Expert Letter

Expert Letters are based on the #FEWExpertLetterModel :

1) Focused: Focused on a specific audience and a specific challenge

  • not everyone or anyone
  • and not a range of topics (that primarily interest the author)
  • they are predominantly focused on the audience (not the author)

2) Expert: Your specific expertise

  • not #GoogleGenericGuff content that the audience suspects they could probably find on Google if they just scrolled for long enough ...
  • this content is more in line with advice (expert views that your audience could be inclined to pay for: first with their time and attention and eventually maybe with their money)

3) Weird: A very specific style, perspective and content that is "weird" (your weird? you're weird?)

  • yes Weird, not Normal, not #GoogleGenericGuff ,
  • the "Weird" that is the cross roads between you, your audience, the journey you are all on together with its specific challenges, stories and words

"People like us do things like this" Seth Godin

(this is Seth Godin's perspective when he was describing tribes: I dont see tribes subscribing to "Newsletters" - surely they want an #ExpertLetter - focused on them?

3) How do you activate Newsletters on your LinkedIn Profile

In order to gain access to Newsletter on LinkedIn you have to activate Creator Mode first here here is how:

These instructions (and screen shots) presume that

  • you dont have Creator Mode activated on your profile
  • and that you therefore haven't started your LinkedIn Newsletter

Here are the step by step instructions for how to activate Creator Mode

  1. On the Resource section of your profile (you may need to click on the "Show all X resources)
  2. Then click on the "Creator Mode" to switch this on

4) Why waste your LinkedIn Newsletter on you?

Now that you have the chance to connect with a wider audience using the LinkedIn Newsletter feature: perhaps rather dont waste the opportunity by:

  1. Making your newsletter about you!
  2. Creating a title that doesn't answer Your Audience's Silent Questions

If you would like to explore how to convert your Newsletter to an #ExpertLetter then connect with me on LinkedIn and we can develop a plan for you together - so that the specific audience you want to teach want to pay you more attention.
