Does AI have moral compass?

Excerpt from MY CONVERSATIONS WITH AI: 100 Questions ?by Tadia Rice?

If you?ve read my previous six of eight excerpts from my book "CONVERSATIONS WITH AI: 100 Questions" you know that I have a preference for using ChatGPT to get information. I’ve tried them all. Most charge money to use but I am supportive of those that don’t. Open-source machine learning is a boon to the public and I believe strongly that all the information contained therein should be free.? If individuals choose to utilize other services on these platforms they are free to do so but for this column I encourage you to use AI and the free version of ChatGPT will answer your questions as easy, if not easier than others.

We recognize that AI is not sentient, and therefore it can’t possess a moral compass in the way humans do. Information it gives operates from algorithms and the input of data.? It does not and cannot utilize inherent moral values. It’s machine learning, despite the fact that many talk to it as if it were a human.? There’s nothing wrong with etiquette but it’s not necessary to get an answer. Humans design, train, and deploy AI systems. Often the system is imbued with values and ethical guidelines even though AI itself doesn't have a moral compass.? Humans have the responsibility to ensure that AI systems are developed and used in ways that align with ethical principles and societal values.

However, AI can be programmed and trained to make decisions or take actions that align with certain ethical principles or moral guidelines. This involves human designers and developers encoding ethical rules and values into the AI system's programming. AI can also be designed to follow specific ethical frameworks or guidelines, such as minimizing harm, promoting fairness, or respecting privacy.

Read Part Eight next week when I identify the key considerations related to AI and ethics.
