Position: DoD Skillbridge Internship - Limited X-Ray Machine Operator
Location: Louisville, Kentucky
General Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled transitioning service member with relevant experience for a DoD Skillbridge internship involving the operation of diagnostic x-ray equipment and providing support to healthcare providers in a clinical setting.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assisting in the delivery of healthcare and patient care management.
- Providing patient education following provider guidelines.
- Establishing and nurturing effective relationships with patients, providers, and colleagues.
- Preparing patients for radiologic procedures.
- Ensuring radiation safety for patients and staff.
- Reviewing patients' charts and conveying physician orders to fellow staff members.
- Timely completion of clerical tasks and patient information management.
- Maintaining accurate electronic health records.
- Managing imaging files comprehensively and meticulously.
- Complying with safety standards, OSHA, and HIPAA regulations.
- Upholding clinical quality assurance standards.
- Conducting routine maintenance and minor adjustments on radiographic equipment, and arranging for repairs when necessary.
- Managing radiographic supplies, images, and inventory.
- Operating general diagnostic equipment as permitted by LMXO license, excluding C-arm or MRI.
- Adhering to medical assistant scope of practice as per federal/state laws.
- Performing imaging exams according to provider protocols.
- Proficient in working with the PAC system.
- Keeping certifications and licensures current.
- Performing other duties as required for the benefit of the practice.
Equipment Operated: Radiological equipment, standard medical and office equipment.
Work Environment: Work locations include radiological units, medical offices, and exam/procedure rooms.
Mental/Physical Requirements: The majority of the time will be spent standing, sitting, or walking. Proficiency in using appropriate body mechanics techniques during patient transfers and assistance with daily activities (e.g., walking, dressing) is required. Occasional kneeling, stooping, bending, or reaching may be necessary. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds is required.

Education/Experience: This DoD Skillbridge internship is exclusively available to transitioning service members with relevant experience in the medical field and Limited X-ray Machine Operator (LMXO) and must obtain certification in Kentucky, along with dual licenses in Ohio and Indiana before starting. Previous experience in the military healthcare system is highly preferred. CPR/AED and First Aid certification is desirable.
Other Requirements: Schedules may vary to accommodate department needs, including overtime and weekends. Occasional travel may be required.
Performance Requirements:
Knowledge:
- Proficient in radiology procedures and protocols.
- Sound knowledge of anatomy and physiology relevant to radiology testing, including body mechanics and patient movement.
- Familiarity with radiology equipment and common safety hazards associated with radiology.
- Understanding of proper body mechanics.
- Familiarity with electronic health records and practice management systems.
Skills:
- Skilled in positioning patients accurately.
- Ability to identify and address equipment issues or promptly report them to supervisors.
- Adherence to infection control and radiological safety procedures.
Abilities:
- Capable of lifting and positioning patients for various x-ray procedures.
- Attention to detail in radiological images, distinguishing between shapes and sizes.
- Ability to follow written instructions and standardized work practices.
- Proficiency in evaluating images and making technical adjustments as necessary.
