Using Serial Numbers for Document Items

We use serial numbers to identify a product uniquely and to capture an overview of which products you have received, stored & sold to which customers.

But if I am a 3rd Party Logistics Provider of Warehousing Services, it will be an additional burden to maintain the serial at inventory level as it requires scanning of serial number in every movement of the product within the warehouse.

Hence document Serial number will allow us to capture the product serial number only at Goods Receipt & packing before Goods Issue process. So that we can keep at track of the serial number serial number received and issued from the warehouse.

CONFIGURATION REQUIREMENTS

?Define Serial Number Profile

SPRO -> IMG -> SCM Extended Warehouse Management -> Extended Warehouse Management -> Master Data -> Product -> Serial Number Profiles -> Define Warehouse Number-Dependent Serial Number Profiles

Here we define the Warehouse number Dependent Serial Number Profile, where the Serial number requirement is at Document Item Level

Here we define the maximum length of the serial number for a warehouse.

Mark Inbound & Outbound Delivery Item relevant to Document Item Serial number

For Inbound Delivery Item: IDLV & Document Category: PDI

SPRO -> IMG -> SCM Extended Warehouse Management -> Extended Warehouse Management -> Goods Issue Process -> Outbound Delivery -> Define Item Types for Inbound Delivery Process

For Outbound Delivery Item: ZDLV & Document Category: PDO

Activate “Quantity Role”, “SN” Of “Quantity Offset Profile” relevant to Inbound & Outbound Delivery Item

SPRO -> IMG -> SCM Extended Warehouse Management -> Extended Warehouse Management -> Cross-Process Settings -> Delivery - Warehouse Request -> Quantity Offsetting -> Define Quantity Offsetting Profiles

For Inbound Delivery Item, "Quantity Offset Profile"

For Outbound Delivery Item, "Quantity Offset Profile"

MASTER DATA REQUIREMENTS

No "Serial Number Profile" needs to be maintained at Plant level of ERP Material Master

"Serial number profile" needs to be maintained only in the WM Execution View of ERP Material Master so that it will reflect in Storage view of EWM Material Master

Display “Serial Number Profile” in “Storage View” of EWM Material Master Data?

PROCESS

Create Purchase Order using transaction ME21N

Create Inbound Delivery using transactionVL31N

Same Inbound Delivery Distributed to EWM

Note the Serial number requirement in the Delivery Item is “A”.

Unload, Capture the Serial numbers & Goods Receipt & Put-away using /N/SCWM/RFUI

Scan the EWM Delivery and hit ENTER. Check the details in NEXT screen and hit ENTER.

Scan the Handling Unit number, In the next screen Press F3 to Enter/Scan the Serial number

Enter/Scan the Serial numbers and F1 Save.

In the Next Screen Press F1 Unload, F2 Post Goods Receipt, F3 Create Put-away WT & finally F4 to confirm the Put-away WT for the HU.?

Confirm the Destination Bin & Destination HU.

Display Serial number Captured at Delivery Item Level

No Serial Number updated at Inventory Level as shown below

We can define an Output type for ERP Inbound Delivery to be trigger at GR to send the details of Serial number received in the warehouse to the customer.

Create Sales Order using transaction VA01

Create Outbound Delivery using transaction VL01N

Same Outbound Delivery Distributed to EWM as shown below

Create Picking WT, Pick, Pack and Capture the Serial Number?

Log on to /N/SCWM/RFUI to capture the Serial Numbers while packing

Next Scan the Work Centre & the Next Screen Scan the HU

In the next screen scan the product/material & hit ENTER. Then in the next screen confirm the destination bin & destination HU and Press F11 to capture Serial number

Display Serial captured in Delivery Item level?

Move the HU to Staging Area and trigger Goods Issue

We can define an Output type for ERP Outbound Delivery to be trigger at Goods Issue to send the details of Serial number issued from the warehouse to the Customer.

Note

??Serial number captured at document Item level in EWM is never updated in ERP Delivery after Goods Receipt or Goods Issue.

??Tack and trace of a particular serial number at inventory level inside Warehouse is not possible.
