Rashida Williams

Affectionately referred to nationwide as “The Glam Doctor”, Williams is quick to confirm that yes she has applied her gifted hands to many well-known faces, but her fulfillment in this “Glam” work is the increased self esteem and radiant disposition of the everyday moms, corporate executives and entrepreneurs she and her team transform weekly.?

We sat down with The Glam Doctor to find out what makes her makeup artistry unique and her vision for the future of her company.?

Why or how can you so confidently embrace your popular moniker,? “The Glam Doctor”?

Oh that’s simple. We offer a high end experience that is? relational and not transactional.? I am the only makeup artistry team-based system that I am aware of in the metro Detroit area where we travel to our customers and provide services in our luxury studio that upholds the same unique customized approach. My teams are based in Nashville, Detroit and Atlanta.?

How did you get your start in this field? Did you always know you would build a beauty business? No way! I thought I was going to sing and act for a living. But God had other plans. I started in 2001 with only weddings and special events. The business grew and I got booked for tv and film. Then social media unlocked many doors for me and pushed my brand. God called me into this.

You have achieved success providing makeup for both men and women. How did this happen?

Bishop Greg Davis from the Detroit-based Word Network gave me my start to help men feel comfortable with male grooming. The music artist Nelly and his team taught me to say “male grooming” vs makeup, and I’ve been using that term ever since. It really helps to make men more at ease.?

We know you’re not into name dropping, but we’re curious about the wide variety of men and women you’ve had the pleasure of providing glam for. In other words, please name drop a bit and share some of your favorite celebrity experiences.?

Vivica Fox is everybody’s friend and one of my favorites. She taught me to esteem my worth when a playwright working on a low budget production convinced me to provide makeup services as a favor. Viveca was not having it! She insisted on paying herself and I learned a valuable lesson from her.

Alfre Woodward brought her own makeup kit because I know many artists get her coloring wrong. She taught me the value of professionalism and being about my business when it comes to Black owned businesses. She gave me many valuable nuggets.?

Roberta Flack was the Auntie you always want to have. My sister painted her toenails! (Laugh) She was just regular people. Warm and inviting. I was able to tell her my Daddy (who was deceased) played her records!

But what does it for me is the everyday woman. I see her. I know her. I am her. She tells her friends about me and keeps fueling my business.?

?

Was there anything that occurred in your childhood you see as an indication of what you are doing today entrepreneurially?? I was a chubby child and my siblings and cousins were lighter skinned. Insecurity was a huge obstacle I had to overcome. Wasn’t told I was pretty. This past pain pushes me to make women feel good about themselves. I genuinely feel fulfilled with every smile I see reflected in a finished face. ?
