Do Your Dreams Scare You?

Do Your Dreams Scare You?

How Big Would You Dream if You Were Sure That All Your Dreams Would Come True?

Do Your Dreams Scare You?

Fear is one crippling emotion that hinders many people from living out their maximum potential. We all grapple with different kinds of fears on a day-to-day basis. Fear of the Unknown, Fear of the future, Fear of Failure, Fear of Diseases, Fear of Rejection, Fear of Disappointments, Fear of Judgement, you name it. While the type of fear could be different for different people, the fact that we all encounter this emotion at one point of our lives is undeniable. I have read a couple of times that ‘Do not fear’ has been mentioned over 365 times in the Bible. As a Christian the Bible is a sounding board in my life and more often than not it has helped me keep it together even in moments where I felt like I was 'losing my mind.'

Fear has belittled our dreams and constantly makes people dream of that which they are only 'sure' to achieve. What is the point of dreaming if you can’t really aim for the sun and hope to land on the moon? I was thinking to myself the other day, if really, I were sure that all my dreams would come true how much bigger would I dare to dream? It’s in dreaming bigger that my dreams would push me to get up and get things done. I would become unstoppable in pursuit of my dreams as it would be clear how much effort I would need to make them a reality. As I was in deep thought trying to figure out the above question, here are some of the things that I resolved to do:

  • ?Surround Myself With SUCCESS- I have resolved to read daily about successful people, successful businesses, successful countries and the strategies they put in place in order to achieve the level of success they have. Generation Z would call this “Manifest” but it really is the law of attraction. It was introduced in modern times by William Walker Atkinson in 1907 in his book- “Thinking Vibration or The Law of Attraction in the Thought World.”
  • Contend with The Fear- carefully face your fears head on. When it comes to dealing with fear many people choose to avoid rather than combat. Avoiding will definitely give you a short-term sense of satisfaction but in order to overcome you need to face it and not stop at anything until you are fully over it. When fear strikes consider whether the correct action might be to analyze the options and make a wise, well thought out choice rather than jumping to what seems right in the heat of the moment
  • Unlearning limiting beliefs- growing up I have gathered beliefs that have affected my worldview in a negative light. For example, for so long I believed that to get into certain companies, sit in impactful boardrooms, meet influential people, get good jobs that I had to know “someone” and hopefully get them to open doors for me. How unfortunate it is to do life with this mentality as it minimizes your horizon and it enhances a myopic vision to see what’s ahead of you when the world really should be your oyster. On the contrary, I have adopted an Excellence & Networking approach respectively. I put in 10x the effort in my work, building my skillset & exuding excellence in everything I do and then networking can follow through. Well, your network is your net worth so I am constantly putting myself out there to meet great people and build a community of impactful change agents. Eventually I believe that these two will help me become an unstoppable force.
  • Heal from Past Trauma- intentionally introspecting to understand why I am the way that I am, think the way that I do, react the way I do so as to understand the root cause of some of the challenges I deal with. Becoming self-aware is one way to start the journey of healing.
  • Do At least One Thing Daily That Challenges Me- I am done with doing the things that I am comfortable doing! It’s time to stretch myself and aim for the things I am constantly shying away from. I want to grow my mind muscle and this is one way of doing that. Another way is to really search on mind exercises that really get you thinking and going above and beyond the usual.

My challenge to you is to do one thing that you are afraid of this week and see how that goes. Make sure that you document it and hopefully it will be the start of many to come!
