?? Do young people prefer lab-grown diamonds?
It’s Tuesday, November 14 — people are talking about WaPo’s Hamas cartoon, why young people increasingly want lab-grown diamonds, and more.
As always, we’ve summarized and organized the different shades of perspective, so you can see the big picture quickly. Here at Shades we believe that seeing multiple points of view is the best way to stay informed.

?? In the news: WaPo’s Hamas cartoon
WaPo pulled a cartoon criticized as racist and offensive, sparking debate.
?? After backlash, The Washington Post retracted an editorial cartoon about Hamas. Critics called it racist, and the editorial page admitted missing something “profound, divisive”.
?? In letters to WaPo, readers expressed outrage over the cartoon. Some said it perpetuated racist stereotypes; others called it “an attempt at excusing Israeli war crimes”.
?? But the NY Post said WaPo's apology was the real mistake. The cartoon made a powerful statement about Hamas's tactics of putting civilians in harm’s way.
?? OutKick agreed: WaPo caved to pressure by deleting the “accurate” Hamas cartoon, and that’s a shame.
?? Either way, the artist behind the cartoon, Michael Ramirez, wasn't happy with WaPo’s decision. But in an interview with Fox, he said he'd continue to create cartoons for the publication.

???Cultural trend: Do young people prefer lab diamonds?
Are young people moving away from natural diamonds toward lab-grown diamonds?
?? The Globe and Mail says Gen Z and Millennials have a growing interest in lab-grown diamonds over natural ones. Why is that?
?? Keyzar Jewelry thinks it's because natural diamond mining is bad for the environment. They're farmed unethically, and cost way too much. Lab-grown is much more appealing.
?? Jewelry Connoisseur agrees — but points out the exception of family-owned natural diamonds. Gen Z and Millennials are generally OK with hand-me-downs.
?? But the National Jeweler says surveys show the youth still want natural diamonds. Most natural diamond purchases are for engagement rings or gifts — that market isn't going anywhere.
