Do you wish you could "re-invent" your organization?

Happy almost Labor Day. It's been a creative summer here at The Leaders Co-Lab.

Check out our newest offer for Changemakers - an online community of conscious changemakers and leaders - Changemakers@Work. Learn how you can get started for FREE in September by joining our Open House .

Now let's talk about Reinventing Organizations. It's a big important idea. And it's up to each of us.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Challenge: The world of work is not working for most of us (at least not as well as we hoped when we followed that "American Dream")

Most leaders are aware of the Gallup employee engagement surveys. If so, you know that only about 32% of us are "actively engaged" at work.?

The "great resignation" is real. Many people have left their companies, only to find themselves in similar situations - but at different companies. Others are burning out, or rusting out.

And now there's something in between. It's called "quiet quitting". While at first glance it might look like disengagement - but it's something else described in a recent Medium article by Jake Wilder . He writes: "Employees are still doing their jobs. They’re taking care of their responsibilities. They’re just no longer sacrificing their personal lives for companies that aren’t willing to pay for or recognize their extra efforts."

And then there is "the gig economy". Many have decided to get out, oftentimes with the intention to come back into these same workplaces as a consultant or coach to make them better. More humane. More effective. More sustainable. Better.

Most organizations could use some reinvention.

The Big Idea: What if our "true work" is to reinvent work for ourselves and future generations?

The Leaders Co-Lab is inspired by the work of Frederic Laloux, and his book Reinventing Organizations (and subsequent related works and contributions by a massive mostly volunteer community!).?

Frederic, who is Belgian, now lives near me, in Ithaca, NY.?When he works, he does so on a "pay what feels right" or in the "gift economy".?He is a generous, sincere, and very intellectual guy.?

His book profiles different organizational value frames, worldviews, or mindsets. The levels are inspired in part by theories and stages of adult development.?Indeed, the operational culture of an organization is likely to be "capped" at the level of development of its CEO or leader.

We are designed to evolve - so let's be proactive

Organizations (and people) evolve in order to respond to the challenges and complexities they are facing.?Clearly then, the complexities we are currently facing are challenging traditional hierarchical models with top-down, command and control structures.?

At The Leaders Co-Lab, we work with organizations and leaders who are on a growth journey - transforming themselves and their work in order to address today's most complex systemic issues. This work often begins with inner development and cultural or team development.

Systems change starts with YOU and ME, and we can be catalysts to build thriving, sustainable organizations, and a thriving world for all.

Go Deeper:

Learning Links: If you are not familiar with the work of Frederic Laloux, you can learn more here:

  1. I suggest you start here - with this excellent animated video from Peter Green at AgileforAll. This is (IMHO) the BEST way to understand the essence of Reinventing Organizations in just 9 minutes! -?https://vimeo.com/121517508 .?
  2. The Reinventing Organizations Wiki -?https://reinventingorganizationswiki.com/

Reflection Questions:

  1. What intrigues you most about what you've learned?
  2. Where do you see your current organization??What "mix" of colors do you see?
  3. What growth would you like to see in your organization??(Note, a good goal may be to become more healthy at the primary/current level!)?
  4. Which of these stages of vertical development is your current center of gravity as a leader?

Let's take it further. Are you a changemaker?

If you and your organization are operating from different worldviews or a different "center of gravity", and you would like to grow your capacity to lead change, please join our new online community of conscious changemakers and leaders - Changemakers@Work. Our Hope and Invitation

It's almost Labor Day. What is your "true work"? How can the world of work become better - unless WE take action?

Choose to lead change that matters.?In your own way.

We work with corporate leaders and teams to unleash change that matters. I'd love to work with your team.

I also work one-on-one with organizational leaders to help you gain the clarity, energy, and focus to unleash the change that matters to you.?
