Now that you have decided to create a business plan, there are questions you need to ask yourself in order to be clear on how you will achieve your goal of owning a successful business. Here are some of them.
- Why do you want to go in business for yourself?
- Who is in your support group?
- What goal would you like to achieve with your business?
- What does achieving this goal means to you?
- What actions are you willing to take to achieve this goal?
- Are you willing to sacrifice your evenings and weekends to make it happen?
- What skills do you have that will make you an expert in your field?
- Do you need to upgrade your skills?
- Where will you operate your business from?
- Are you ready for the emotional roller coaster owning a business will put you through?
Yes owning your business can be very rewarding. It allows you the freedom of setting your own hours, be on vacation whenever you want, not have to answer to a boss you don’t like and pay yourself what you feel you are worth. It means sharing you vision, changing people\s life, contributing to society, and making a difference.
Sure it sounds good in a conversation to say you own your business. But it also means you must have a passion for what you do. You must believe that you are making a difference because the sacrifices you will need to make to achieve your goal can be devastating for an ill-prepared entrepreneur.
Some of you might read this and think I am a pessimistic individual. Well so be it. I see it as being realistic about what awaits you. Too many times I see people starting a business, sinking their life savings into it, losing their home, family and friends because they only saw the good, positive side of owning a business. The only thing I am saying is: it is a long road full of roadblocks, frustration and stress. So let me ask you this:
