“How would I describe the wolf dwelling with the lamb?” This was my greatest challenge, confessed Smadar Carmeli, an artisit who created the mesmerizing street carpet in Jerusalem.?
We met Smadar few weeks ago on a special tour where she described the process she went through in designing the concrete carpet.
“ I chose Isaiah ‘s view on life to be the leading motive for the design. We are standing close to the 1967 border and in front of Jerusalem’s old city. Residants and tourists walk through the carpet to the old checkpoint .” Smadar presented her passion to increnate Ishaia's vision for ethernal peace with a personal interpretation.
“ I decided to breake the traditional depiction where the lion is big and strong and the lamp is small and weak. In my carpet the lion and the lamp are the same size. Each one has a special beauty. It can be seen in their pose and faces. I believe that there is an option to live Issiah’s autopic vision in the 21 century.”
Now, participants in the group clapped.
Tears were in my eyes.
We were astonished by the way Smadar brought our lifelong prayer for peace into life.
