For me, teaching began in college. I discovered that I could instruct a child and watch them learn and understand a skill. I was awestruck by the notion that I could creatively teach and watch students learn, understand and apply new information.?

As I continued to teach in various positions, I saw teaching not as a job but as a child’s future. Practicing executive functioning skills through daily routines was as important as mastering content. I believed providing meaningful instruction and preparing students for their future was essential.?

Positive relationships with students and families have been a priority from day one. Over the years, I have developed a deeper understanding of why positive relationships are critical to student success. Students deserve to feel important, included, and safe in a positive learning environment. My greatest hope is that I am remembered as a teacher who cared. A teacher who taught relentlessly but gave students grace when needed. Most importantly, I treated students with kindness when they made mistakes.
