If your workspace is cluttered your mind will be cluttered!
Do you find yourself procrastinating over your tasks, or sitting at your desk for hours but not feeling as if you’ve achieved anything, even though you’ve been busy?
That’s probably because ... despite all your good intentions you’ll not be making any progress with your action items if your workspace is cluttered.
Clearing your workspace removes distractions and helps you focus on the task at hand. This includes your physical workspace and your digital workspace.
Back when we still had hardcopy files and my team and I had a physical office that we turned up to every day we had a filing tray system.? Three trays:
Everyone’s trays were stacked in exactly the same order. The in and out trays had to be clear daily and the WIP tray had to be organised with clear L-shape folders and labelled.?
Now that we are a 100% virtual team, it's super important that our digital workspace is organised.? And not just our shared workspace but also our individual desktops and downloads folder.

Because this is my “hit by a bus” policy. If any of my team got seriously ill that meant they were away from work for any length of time, someone else in the team could sit at their desk and know exactly where to find everything. My business could carry on with the least amount of downtime.
This system may sound basic, it is!? But it’s oh so effective.? Not only does it help with being focused but it stops time-wasting. You can waste so much time looking for files if they aren’t ‘put away'.
So if papers belong in a file, file them away. If you’ve kept them on your desk to remind you to do something, then add a to-do item to your list before you put them away. If they’re unnecessary, recycle them.
Clear your computer desktop of unnecessary files and icons, and close any windows you’re not currently using. If you want to focus on a larger project, then turn off all your notifications and find a quiet space to work.
This week I want you to promise me one thing - you will take some time to put this system into place so you can continue to conquer those big goals you’ve set yourself.?
If you want some accountability, hit comment below and tell me you’ve done it, or when you’re gonna do it.
