As a Google Certified digital marketing specialist, I regularly get questions around digital marketing. I have also realized that the bulk of entrepreneurs do not appreciate the importance of digital marketing for their businesses.

In this post, I will explain briefly what digital marketing is, and why it should be a top priority for your business.


WHAT IS DIGITAL MARKETING?

Digital marketing is an umbrella term for all your online marketing efforts. Through digital marketing, you can leverage digital channels such as Google search, social media, email, and your website to connect with your current and prospective customers.



WHY IS DIGITAL MARKETING IMPORTANT?

The way people shop and buy has changed, offline marketing isn’t as effective as it used to be. Marketing has always been about connecting with your audience in the right place and at the right time. Today, that means that you need to meet them where they are already spending time: on the internet.

Facebook has just surpassed 2 billion active monthly users and Google now processes over 40,000 search queries every second on average, which translates to over 3.5 billion searches per day and 1.2 trillion searches per year worldwide. This shows how the internet has become a critical part of the consumer journey. As a business, you want to be found by prospective customers at the right time during this journey.


MY DIGITAL MARKETING SERVICES

I provide the following services:

1. Design and management of Facebook and Google advertising campaigns

I will design targeted advertising campaigns for your business. On Facebook, I will help you define your potential buyer (buyer persona) and make sure your advert only shows to people who closely match that criteria. This ensures that your advertising budget is spent effectively and you realise a higher return on investment (R.O.I). Please note this is not the same as posting in Facebook groups, but it's paying Facebook to show your ads to a targeted audience. I will provide reports of the performance of the advertising campaign so that we can evaluate and make any necessary changes.


For Google ads, I will help you create a list of the keywords you would want to trigger your advert.

I will also design the advert and the landing page (the page on your website that a user will first see when they click on your advert in Google results). I will also give you feedback on the performance of keywords and recommendations. This is also called Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and can have a very high ROI if done well.


2. Content Writing

I write content/e-books for your websites and social media pages.

I do research to create bespoke content that resonates with your audience.


The content will achieve the following goals:

(a) Answer the questions that your audience may have

(b) Establish you as an expert in your field so that you can generate new leads (potential customers). In other words, it allows you to become the go-to brand in your field.

(c) Help improve your search engine rankings (Search Engine Optimisation).

This is important because if you rank higher on Google for certain keywords you will have better chances of getting found by prospective clients.

For example, if you run a recruitment agency in Harare, you want to appear on the first page of Google results when one searches for 'Recruitment agencies in Harare'. If you rank lower you will lose a lot of potential business

3. Social media management

I create and manage your social media accounts. I create posts to keep your followers engaged and to attract new ones.

I optimise your existing pages to make them more effective.


4. Website assessment, optimisation and traffic tracking

Most websites I have seen in Zimbabwe and Africa are ineffective. Some lack the critical information that clients need. Others are not user/mobile friendly. Others have slow loading times among other things.

I will do an assessment of your website and social media pages and advise you on how these can be optimised (SEO). I will also look at your competitors ranking higher than you for certain keywords and advise you on why they are ranking higher and what you can do to outrank them.


I will track your website's traffic and give you feedback on the following:

(a) Where is your traffic (visitors) coming from?

(b) What are your users doing on the site?, Which pages are they visiting and how long are they staying there?

(c) Which keywords are you getting found for on Google's organic (unpaid) search?

All this information is necessary for making informed decisions to improve the website.


5. Email Marketing Management

If you are running a business and you are not collecting emails of your contacts then you are missing out.

Email marketing is one of the cheapest and effective ways to grow your business.

I help you build an email list and use it to build relationships and market to current and prospective clients. I will help you create lead magnets (content to attract email addresses of people interested in your goods/service).
