Do You Trust Your Intuition?

What is Intuition?

Intuition is a type of knowledge or insight that is not based on conscious reasoning or analysis, but rather on a subconscious or instinctive understanding of a situation. It is often described as a "gut feeling" or a sense of knowing that comes from within, without the need for explicit reasoning or evidence. The word itself suggests where the knowledge comes from: "in-tuition" or "inner tuition". It's a teaching from the inside out, suggesting that all your answers can be found by turning inwards.

Intuition can manifest in various forms, such as a sudden idea or inspiration, a feeling of unease or warning, a sense of alignment or resonance with a particular person or situation, or a deep understanding of a complex problem or situation.

Intuition, Psychic Abilities and The Field

Lynne McTaggart's book "The Field" (a fascinating read btw) explores the scientific research into the concept of a universal energy field that connects all things in the Universe. In the book, she suggests that this field may hold the key to understanding a range of phenomena, including psychic abilities and intuition.

According to McTaggart, psychic abilities are a natural human ability that we all possess to some degree. These abilities are often dismissed as "supernatural" or "paranormal," but she argues that they are actually part of our innate biological and energetic makeup.

McTaggart suggests that psychic abilities may be connected to the energy field that she describes in her book. This field is thought to be a subtle energy that permeates all matter and connects everything in the Universe. Some researchers believe that this field may carry information and messages that can be accessed through intuition, meditation, and other practices. In other words, intuition draws on an intelligence from a more mystical or unfathomable source - a source that is beyond our rational thinking mind or physical intelligence.

McTaggart cites numerous studies that have explored the phenomenon of psychic abilities, including telepathy, clairvoyance, and precognition. These studies suggest that these abilities may be more common than we think, and that they may be a natural part of human consciousness.

Overall, McTaggart suggests that we all have the potential to access our psychic abilities and use them to enhance our lives and connect with the world around us. She encourages people to explore these abilities through practices, such as meditation, intuition training, and energy work, and to embrace the idea that we are all connected to a larger, universal field of consciousness.

What Blocks Intuition?

In an earlier article of this newsletter, I extensively explored the role of the heart in intuition (25) Your Heart Knows the Truth | LinkedIn. Closing off the heart can be one way we block or stymie its intuitive wisdom. This often happens after we have experienced rejection, disappointment or hurt.

We can restrict our intuition by allowing others to determine our path for us. When we relinquish our responsibility for decision-making and allow others to choose for us, we typically end up on a misguided path, one that is not in alignment with our "higher self", but somehow fits the other person's demands or expectations for us.

Another way we block our intuition is by putting too much conscious thought into a situation or into making a decision. We examine, we scrutinise, we ruminate and we over-analyse to the point where can often perform a U-turn following our initial "hunch" (instinct). Essentially, we succumb to the doubting, fear-based, ego mind. We don't trust our innate intelligence or satnav system.

When I did William Whitecloud's free course "Create Your Destiny" (in March 2021) based on his book "The Secrets of Natural Success", we went into Zoom break-out rooms with people we'd never met before. We had to start relating a story about the person we were partnered with, without any prior formal introduction. We literally had to go with the flow and invent a story of what they enjoyed doing, the environment in which they lived (the more detail, the better), and what their hopes and aspirations would be. It was a scary, but exhilarating experience. I couldn't believe how accurate our "stories" were of each other. This sort of backed up what Lynne McTaggart claims in her book "The Field": that if we shut off our thinking, rational mind, we can access this interconnected field of intelligence and super-consciousness. A section of the course was entitled "In no sense" (there was a play of words for innocence). We literally were told not to make sense of what came up, but literally just run with it and to not be afraid of being specific. It was innocent, undiluted invention. Not many people know this is how Casanova made his fortune among the wealthy: by instinctively "reading" people and offering insights into their future potential.

Intuition in Decision-making

Although intuition is often difficult to explain or quantify, it can be a valuable source of information and insight in decision-making, problem-solving, and creative pursuits. Many successful artists, entrepreneurs, and innovators credit their intuition as a key factor in their success.

In my recent free workshop, I describe successful people as people who can make insightful decisions quickly and stick to them. They generally are people who naturally have very good instincts or they have improved their intuitive capabilities by honing their intuitive skills. And yes, it is possible to stretch the muscles of intuition.

Here are some tips to help you build yours:

  • Practise mindfulness: Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present in the moment and observing our thoughts and emotions without judgment. By practising mindfulness, we can become more aware of our intuition and the messages that our hearts are sending us.

  • Trust your instincts: Intuition is often a subtle feeling that we may ignore or dismiss. By trusting our instincts and acting on them, we can strengthen our intuition and connect more deeply with our hearts.

  • Cultivate self-love: When we love and accept ourselves, we are more likely to listen to our hearts and follow our intuition. By practicing self-care and self-compassion, we can cultivate a deeper connection with our hearts and access our inner guidance.

  • Connect with nature: Spending time in nature can help us connect with our hearts and access our intuition. Nature has a way of calming our minds and opening our hearts to new possibilities and insights.

And in this regard, don't forget that intuition and the heart are deeply connected. By listening to our hearts and accessing our intuition, we can connect with our true selves, make better decisions, and live a more authentic life. By practising mindfulness, trusting our instincts, cultivating self-love, and connecting with nature, we can strengthen this connection and access the wisdom of our hearts.

The Role of EAM

I'm an accredited Energy Alignment Method (EAM) mentor. This method is a powerful and easy to follow 5-step technique by which we can let go of our (conscious and unconscious) fears and doubts that impede access to our heart's wisdom and our intuition. It also offers us a concrete, tangible way, through the body sway, of finding out what is intuitively right for us, particularly when it comes to making decisions and setting priorities. I covered this in the recent workshop Master the Art of Confident Decision-Making. Click the foregoing link for the recording. If you'd like the accompanying workbook, please drop me a message with your email and this will be sent to you.

And of course, you can book a call with me to discuss your particular dilemmas and how I can help you gain instant clarity and direction. Book a call.
