How often do you tell your story to yourself?

Every one of us, has definitely, at some point in time taken a step to control our lives, letting go of our fear and coming out of our cocoon.

Let me tell you a story.

“So, who will be the next?” Asked the professor .” Ma’am….me”. She stood from her bench, raising her hand high, as high as she could. She knew she was not ready for it, but it was a sudden reflex to the incident of yesterday. She looked around, her peers were gazing at her astonishingly. It was obvious though, a voice rarely heard. She went to the Blackboard. The professor went to the last bench.

Though her legs shivered, she was successful in hiding the cracks in her voice. “I fully admit …the …the thing….the statement by my opponent, but...but freedom, when not used sen…sensibly…..becomes harmful.” she started. Her words were simple, but the idea was new. She gulped in between, she took breaks but didn’t give up on creating an illusion of confidence to express herself, and that too for around five minutes.

Eventually, the illusion she created ended up with unexpected applause and admiration. She would not have thought of it, even in her wildest dreams. She somehow managed the surge of hormones as she sat back. Her heartbeat was still at its peak. The crowd around her was small but her world was not the same now.

Self-belief is a seed. It needs to be sown and nurtured till it becomes a huge tree that gains roots to hold you firmly, leaves to feed inconsistencies, and branches too.

As you finish reading the story. Do yourself a favor. Take a break for a moment and recall the last time you took a step out of your comfort, for yourself.

And do this exercise every time you feel lost.

Whenever you feel you are not enough.

Remind yourself how brave you are and how the circumstances have no control over you but you have over them and over yourself, as well.
