I wonder how many times during your lifetime you've avoided it, denied it, tried to pass it to someone else or shouldered it. I bet we've all done all of those things for different reasons at different times and stages of our lives.
I want to talk about now. Right now!
As Business Owners we have to take responsibility for our business. FACT! The responsibility for the decisions we make or don't make is ours. We have to accept the outcome and how we deal with the outcome is our resposibility. We have choice about that too.
Just thinking about the resposibility that you shoulder - is it always yours? Are you bothering with stuff that actually is really no concern of yours but you get so involved that you seem to take on a cause, a mission or the stress of the situation - sometimes cutting your nose off to spite your face (as the saying goes)
Have you got FOMO? Fear of missing out. Do you go to events that really are not serving you at all but you just feel you shoudl be there just in case? Really you kow it will be wasting your time - but what if!
Is other people's stuff taking up your time? Do you generously give of your time but actually are you just wasting that valuable resource that you are not goign to get back?
We all have the responsibility to use our time in the most efficient and effective way to move us towards OUR goals.
So what can you do today to take the responsibility that is squarely yours, ditch any responsibility that is not yours and start to create boundaries to protect your time.
Is this something that rang true or do you think it's OK to take on responsibilities that are not yours? I'd love to know.
Have a great day!

6 年A thought-provoking article Vicky. I think the FOMO idea is particularly important in motivating what you take on, and also what doesn't get done. If we set our business goals effectively, and plan?specific actions that will support achievement of those goals, we're part way there. Then it's about 2 things: 1. TAKING action, and not getting distracted by those little things that we might enjoy more, or find easier 2. BALANCING our plans with those opportunities that may come along that we couldn't have planned for. This is where I believe the FOMO idea comes into play. And as long as our decisions to take advantages of those unplanned for opportunities support our overall business goal(s), then it's a plus. Otherwise, we could spend our time attending things that are only tentatively relevant to what we're trying to achieve, then get frustrated when the important stuff still isn't getting done. I've stopped attending events (webinars, certain networking events, etc) that don't support my business goals, but it's been a mental battle! Being in business involves being flexible and it's a balance that I'm still working on! Thanks for the post Vicky.?
