We really 'suck' in innovation. Yes, you probably too, although perhaps you are not fully aware of it. Let me explain you some facts from two recent LinkedIn polls on the number of innovation initiatives getting launched and the number of launched new products or - services being successful.
As you can see below, almost sixty percent of all organisations launches only one out of every four innovation in initiatives on the market, or even less. On purpose I have called it innovation initiatives because next to new products it could also be new services, - business models, - customer experiences or else. On average the poll shows that only 1 out of every 3.9 innovation initiatives hits the market. The other three got stuck in the innovation pipeline or were stopped.
But it gets even worse. A week later I asked innovators on LinkedIn how many of the launched new products or - services actually attain their original targets. The result is as depressing as the first poll. At fifty three percent of all organisations only one out of every four launched new products or - services reaches their targets, or even less. On average this poll shows that only 1 out of every 3.7 new initiatives launched reach their targets, and can be called successful.
Multiplying these two statistics lead to the fact that on average organisations have to start 14 new innovation initiatives to get one innovation success. It means there's lot of room for improvement in the innovation space.
Organisations have to start 14 new innovation initiatives to get one innovation success.

3 年14 efforts at innovation for one to be successful. That sounds pretty inefficient to me. Even with learning happening, it’s a very poor hit rate
