- Braai - A barbecue; it's a social event as much as a cooking method.
- Lekker - Means "nice" or "great"; can describe food, experiences, or things.
- Eish! - An expression of surprise or frustration.
- Bakkie - A pickup truck; often used for transport.
- Dop - A drink, usually alcoholic.
- Saffa - A colloquial term for a South African.
- Shisa Nyama - A barbecue or braai, often referring to a communal outdoor cooking experience.
- Yebo - Yes; an affirmative response.
- Bafana Bafana - The national soccer team, used to refer to South African soccer in general.
