Hello, And welcome to my third newsletter.
Last week I shared some information on the importance of using goals to monitor your social media progress. And how that can help you to stay on track and aligned with your overall business objectives.
In order to make sure you are staying on track you will need to conduct a regular review to:
?? Understand your customers and what they need from you.
?? Understand what's working so you can ditch the stuff that isn't.
?? Set realistic goals.
?? Know whether your efforts are supporting your business growth.
There can be a lot of variables to look for, so do make sure your review links to your goals.
How do I review?
Firstly, pick one or two goals to focus on. I am going to choose brand awareness as an example. Why? because it's the broadest and one of the ones that most of us consistently need to measure.
If you haven't done a review for a while, you will need to do a topline assessment. So, take a good look at your overall accounts and bios. You will need to make a note of the following things:
? Are the headers and tag lines all up to date?
? Are there any new features that you could utilise?
? Are the images recent?
? Does it contain a hook to draw people in?
? Do they reflect what you do now and what you are trying to achieve?
Now...
Dig a little deeper and look at your followers and connections. Are you:
? Following the people and companies you want to work with, support and/ or collaborate with.
? Are you followed by or connected with potential clients, suppliers and collaborators?
? Following hashtags and/ or topics that are relevant to your business?
? Are you regularly producing content that your audience wants to see?
? Are you engaging with other relevant people and responding to comments on your posts and content?
Time to get a bit more granular...
Now you will need to delve into the individual platforms and assess how well your content is performing. So pick a time period to focus on. A month is s good benchmark if you sharing at least 3 posts per week (any less than you will need to look at the last quarter to give you enough data to work with).
As a side note, it is good to track the following monthly:
?? Post reach and impressions
??Growth in connections/ followers
?? Engagements: Likes, comments, shares, saves
?? Account, and profile visits
?? Website visits.
We also want to determine what our best and worst-performing posts are based on our goal. Remember in this example that we are measuring brand awareness, so our primary concern would be:
- Reach: The number of people who saw your post.
- Impressions/ Post views: The number of times your post was seen.
Ideally, you want your reach/ post views to be higher than impressions. This indicates that people have referred back to your post or that it has a good level of interaction, so has appeared more times in someone's newsfeed.
Note down these for your 3 best and worst-performing posts and screenshot them.
You will also need to make a note of the following:
?? Dates and times the post was shared.
?? Engagements on the post: Likes, comments, shares and saves.
?? Website/ link clicks.
You will probably notice a common trend between those that performed well and those who didn't perform as well. This may not even be down to the quality of your content it may be down to timings, format or not having a clear call to action that tells your audience the action they need to take.
If you do this regularly, you will see a pattern emerge over time that helps you stay on top of your social media and on track with your goals.
