Do You Really Need Premium to Get Hired Faster?

Even though LinkedIn says, "Candidates with Premium Career get hired an average of 2X as fast", I'm not so sure. I've got a few concerns and solutions for you. Here's the FAQ...
Has this statement been the case for you or anyone you know? Not for me. Certainly not the notion that just paying for it will double the speed.
No doubt there are some great features that come with Premium - which you can see from this short 1-minute video, see basic features, and a feature comparison.
Yet that statement suggests "pay to play". I'd say what is required to get a job faster is the best experience/fit for the job, showing it in your profile (of course!), and then good ol' networking.
The Real Cost
NOTE: It costs $34/month after taxes.
Just because you have a premium subscription - or even add #ONO to your profile - does NOT mean you will get a job. Let alone faster.
It could actually cost you a lot more if you believe that's all you need!
The Real Benefits
The biggest reason I go with premium is when I need more. But I'm not talking more jobs. I'm talking more functionality. The biggest things you get from this base premium version (Career) are 90 days of profile views and access to LinkedIn Learning.
Two issues even with those:
1. Nobody can see who the recruiters were who viewed your profile in the 90 days - no matter how much you pay! You can see that for free as one of the 5 slots with "X person/people with the job title Recruiter"... But you know there's an enticement (shown in red below)
Even with premium, the recruiter views stays the same "hidden"...
What's it good for then? Well, if you can't get to the last 5 because your profile is picking up steam and attracting more views, you can see if that certain hiring manager is checking YOU out! ;)
2. As much as I think LinkedIn Learning is good, I wonder how it is viewed to recruiters and hiring managers. It's better than not doing it, but would it count as good as a certification or degree? I don't think so.
So What Works?
If I had to pick three things, I'd say LinkedIn already tells us in the upper-right of the profile views page. Here's a view from a recent client...
- Update your profile - we did that
- Connect with people - yep
- Engage with your feed - oops!
See the drop off? That can happen even after points 1 and 2 are done well, but no engagement. In other words, not showing what you offer, connecting AND networking.
