Do you *really* need ongoing support in business?

This is mainly for my Business owner friends, but if you work for a company and make hiring decisions, some of these may apply to you as well!
Hiring too prematurely is a common issue in the online space. We see things like "If you're overwhelmed, it's time for a VA!" "Dread doing a task? Hire a VA".
When I started my VA business, I was one of these people. As I grew into my business and my current role, I realized how damaging that can be.
So before you get ready to do that post asking for recommendations, ask yourself the following first:
1) Am I truly busy or am I just creating more work for myself?
This stems from the hustle mentality. You feel as though you need to be busier than you actually are or need to be.
2) Is your current busyness from an influx of clients or lack of structure?
This means, you may have 3 people and it feels overwhelming because you never documented an onboarding process for your clients. Instead, you may want to hire someone that can help you fix this piece of your business instead of hiring a VA.

3) Do you have the redundant tasks automated?
You should still have a human touch, but something as simple as setting up an automatic email after someone fills a form with what to expect goes a long way and can buy you time.
Overall, many of us aren't (or weren't) ready to bring ongoing support in your business. Instead, the focus should be on hiring specialists to help you build out what you need.
Then, as you've been operating in that space, bring on a team. When you bring on a team too early, you are just enhancing the "chaos" inside the business.
As always, when you're ready to get your thoughts organized and documented to prepare for delegation, contact The Lazy Millennial to help!
