The ability to know oneself is a rare these days. One of the main reasons for this is – we are more connected with the virtual world in comparison to the real world. This is the very reason why we don’t understand our personal problems such as bad relationships, excessive anxiety, anger or other emotion issues; or professional problems such as: employee turnover, abnormal behavior, deteriorating business relationships, high employee turnover and employee disengagement. The solutions may vary from organization to organization and person to person but all the solution start with one key element: that is self-awareness. Let’s explore self-awareness through Dr. Tasha’s self-awareness model.
?
INTROSPECTORS
Introspector are people with high internal self-awareness. They think they know everything, their experience, expertise and understanding of themselves makes them the perfect human being. Often it has been observed introspector speaks about themselves in public, but their actions contradict with their words. We all have heard this statement from our elders, “Mainay Duneya Dekhee Hae”, “Mujhai nahi batao”, “Main Sab Janta Hon.” All these statements are indicators that either they are truly self-aware or they are not self-aware at all. Introspector are not good team players nor are they capable of managing team. They often see the world with their own limiting view and perspective due to this reason they often fail to empathize with others.
SEEKERS
Seekers are people who do not know themselves and are unaware what people think of them. They are confused, furious and always looking at what other people are doing. A great example of this is the trend of Amazon, drop shipping, IT, ACCA etc in Pakistan. These people choose field by looking at what other people are doing rather than reflecting on who they are, what they need and what is important. In corporations they are people who does the bare minimum and are unaware what the management think of them or what their team members think of them. They follow what the majority of the employees are doing, if the majority is doing bare minimum or is deceiving the management - they may or may not join the herd.

?PLEASERS

Then we have pleasers. These people are experts in changing their behavior according to the type of people they meet. They can be molding their religion, their beliefs, their values or entire self as per the person they want to please. I have seen these sorts of people in my class, in corporations, in families and the funny part is they can be easily spotted.
?SELF AWARE
The ideal state that anyone can achieve is to be aware of own self and also be aware what other people think of him/herself. The core point is to audit the behavior and self-reflect. Often, we fall in the trap of self-deception. For example, a friend of mine always used to say Usury is not permissible in Islam and he himself had cars and asset on interest- based loans. People who are truly self-aware can easily take criticism, are always open to new learning, are always auditing their behavior and looking to improve their own character and conduct. They are true leaders who always lead from the front, they like people challenging their views and are always ready to learn from anyone they interact with.?
