Do You Really Know How to Make the 'Best' Friend and Colleague?
Seriously, some people think they can make it alone. Others like to be the life and soul of the party, craving attention from every opportunity in their attempt to outshine their peers. Well, you cannot make it alone; neither can you truly make it, if you attempt to please everyone.
The secret to making the “best” friend and colleague is one of self-development and achievement. This way you emulate something that everyone wants, and they will naturally be attracted to you, and the qualities you possess. You will not need to try to be popular, or to suck up to people; and the best part is that you retain all of your core values.
The characteristics you require will even stay for a lifetime, if you nurture them:
Be Expressive.
It is important to be yourself, to show your friends and colleagues the true person that you are. You can show that you are sincere by displaying your emotions. This will indicate to others that you are in character. A clear way of displaying who you are naturally, is to show your characteristics and instincts, which will in turn endear others to you.
Be Responsible.
Responsibility is a characteristic that many shun away from in relationships. However, this is a trait of a true friend; and unless you are responsible in every sense you cannot offer a genuine and long-lasting friendship to others. You need to exercise authority, control and inspiration or good influence to those around you. You can even inspire those around you by loving your work. The way that you responsibly manage your workload will become evident to others. This will translate to them as a great character trait.
Be Humble.
One of the biggest destroyers of the opportunity to find friends and colleagues is that of self-boasting. You will never be inspired by someone who needs praise constantly; and who is clearly not comfortable in his or her own skin. One of the most wonderful feelings that you can achieve in your life is that of gaining recognition whilst remaining firmly grounded and down-to-earth. You will earn the respect of your colleagues, and maintain great relationships at the same time.
Be Genuine.
Life in the Twenty-first Century has shown us many surreal qualities. This is exactly why those around you, will value you being as you seem. Even if you are able to purport to be an alter ego, this is pointless, as eventually you will be exposed. Longevity of a relationship is based on consistency; and showing who you are from day one, will ensure your friends respect you.
Be Loyal.
This quality is sadly on the decline. There are not many who are loyal for example in the face of bold cash, or even the promise of it. The truth is that it is very hard to stare at your image in a mirror as you realize your price tag. Loyalty requires no monetary reward usually, and forges a deep bond between individuals.
Be Honest.
Honesty is a quality that is very important to most. There is no doubt that trust disappears when you discover deceit amongst friends or colleagues. Sadly, it has to be zero tolerance here, as there is no way back from deceit. A lie or deceit cannot be spun into anything but that from any angle. Anyone prepared to lie, is prepared to do anything at a price. Admittedly this is the gold standard. However, imagine having a friend or colleague that operated to this standard; you would know that you could trust them implicitly.
Clearly, this list will take some time to achieve, however we are all works in progress, as it always takes time to shape something amazing. Your life will be more rewarding and full of challenge, as you tread this path to true excellence.
