Do You Really Know God, or Just Know About God?

You hear it often: people claim to know God, but do they? Do they genuinely have a personal relationship with Him, or just know about God? Exploring this subject is the greatest and most enjoyable journey we will ever undertake, for God represents the pinnacle of reality. Between the covers of the Bible, God reveals Himself to us. Deuteronomy 29:29:“The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever…”You see, His ways are higher than ours, and His words are greater than ours. However, this doesn’t mean that we can’t know Him. To connect with God’s promises and power, reading the Bible is essential and guides us in our pursuit. King David reminds us, in Psalm 100:3,Know that the LORD is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture.” We were created to know God personally: as a Father, a friend, a Creator, and a Sustainer, and by learning more about Him, we gain a deeper understanding of ourselves. Jeremiah 9:23-24: This is what the LORD says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know Me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the LORD.” We can brag that we know God when we pursue Him in the Bible. Some people say they don’t have the time to read the Bible. Yet, when failures surround them, they hurry up and pray, looking for an immediate solution. When our hearts feel overwhelmed, the Bible tells us in Psalm 61:2-3: “From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For You have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe.” God wants His children to know Him and that His promises to us are unchanging. The apostle Peter tells us, 2 Peter 3:18:“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever! Amen.” God is a person, yet we ignore getting to know Him personally until we are distressed. One day, we will all see Him face-to-face. He is the everlasting Father, the God of hosts, and the Lord of heaven and earth. He is the Author and Finisher, the Alpha and Omega, the Comforter, the Counselor, and the Creator. He is the Great Physician and the God of all grace. His name is I Am, and He is the Holy One of Israel. We call Him Jehovah, the Most High. He is the Lord of the living and the Lord of the dead. He is our Maker, Mediator, and the Man of Sorrows. He is our Prophet, our Priest, our King, our Redeemer, our Refuge, and our Rock. He is the ruler of heaven and earth, and He is also the friend of sinners. Yes, it’s important for us to know God, but the key takeaway is that He already knows and loves us. Because He loves us, our relationship with Him deepens when we seek Him, forging a powerful connection with the supreme being of the entire universe.
